Why take this course?

Membrane classification and different membrane technologies will be covered in this. The classification of water based on TDS along with the flux range for each of the source will be discussed. Pre-treatment technologies such as activated carbon filter,dual media filter(DMF) and chemical pre-treatment is discussed in detail. Ultrafiltration(UF) is explained as a pretreatment as well as a membrane filtration technology. The design equations and the process flow diagram (filtration,backwashing and cleaning process) of the Ultrafiltration system is discussed. The pass and stage wise Reverse Osmosis (RO) system is discussed.The design equations and the process and instrumentation diagram of the Reverse Osmosis system is also discussed. Case studies involving the design of DMF,UF and RO system is discussed. The design of RO system with the aid of ROSA software is also discussed.

It is well presented. I personally feel that a P&ID should be presented in this course. This will give a good idea on the process flow together with its process control systems.

Wonderful course very well covered and explained stepwise step all treatment units design. One thing that I wish the course could also cover was usage of WAVE Software as ROSA is no more available on DOW website. Thanks a lot.

As a mechanical engineer I have been curious about the subject. And this course explains the fundamentals of membrane technologies as applied to an a real-life example really well. I like the approach of going through the grind of making calculations before using an software. And the step by explanation of the Rosa software was done really well. I found some of the slides had too much information on them to process while listening and that the length of videos could be made more uniform. I also felt more industrially known examples for materials and equipment used could have been mentioned, like the Hydranautics module that was shared. In essence, the instructor’s explanation of concepts is very lucid and this is course, one has to go through and then keep coming back to while making one’s own design and calculations. Recommended for sure.

The course covers the classification of membranes and provides us an insight into the different membrane technologies present. The course provides a detailed discussion about the design of ultrafiltration and reverse osmosis system. The instructor has provided examples for all design equations required to design the UF and RO system. The best part of the course is the animated process flow diagrams which makes us understand the process of UF and RO. The last section which not only covers the step by step design of RO by ROSA but also explains how to rectify the errors when we encounter them. Definitely value for money course. The only suggestion please include one more case study.
