What you will learn

Participant will be able to write basic MDX scripts by himself or herself and will feel more confident on MDX queries. Participant will understand the rules to write MDX queries . If the participant is working in a company where MDX scripts are prewritten then participants will be able to understand those scripts after learning this course.

Why take this course?

The full form of MDX is Multi Dimensional eXpression. This is used to query OLAP cube. It means you can select or retrieve the data from OLAP cube using MDX . In this course i have used SQL Server Analysis Services technology to fetch the data using MDX queries.

To make it more clear i can say , we write SQL commands to select the data from the database . In the same way we write MDX queries to select the data from OLAP cube.

In this online MDX Training video Course, following are the course contents which are covered

•Structure of the cube

•How MDX Queries Fetch the data from the cube

•How to create a basic cube

•What is the purpose of Hierarchy

•How to create hierarchies

•How to modify the existing cube

•Terminologies - Children,Member and Level

•Set - { }

•Tuple - ( )

•Default measure

•Filter condition

•Having condition

•Where condition

•Difference between where and having condition in MDX

•Calculated Member

•Named set

Orderset - One example of named set

The result of a Tuple will return a Set

Decide when to create named set and calculated member

•Query scoped and Session scoped Calculated Member

•Query scoped and Session scoped Namedset

  Allmembers

  Static and Dynamic Named Set

In this MDX video tutorial ,quiz, lab exercises  and  demonstration exercises are also included. With all these practice activities participant will feel more confident and will be able to write basic MDX scripts by himself or herself. If participant is working in a company where MDX scripts are prewritten then participants will be able to understand those scripts after learning this course.

But i will not stop only to this course , very soon i will release MDX Part 2 which will have advanced MDX queries and functions . After that course participant will be able to write complex MDX commands and feel more confident in writing MDX commands.

Very good course, although not an easy subject. I think it is essential to have a basic understanding of SQL before taking this course.

I hope things to get better in Labs, sometimes they explanation is too slow. Another disadvatnage i am suffering from, is that the software he is using is outdated...

It would be great if it just care about MDX instead it has some modules about installing sql server and other stuff. But the content is good enough to understand MDX.

You have provided us the basics of database and data warehouse which are very much required to follow next sections.

The course is good for beginners, everything is explained really in detail, so even non-technical person can get a grip of what is taught. However I expect more in-depth solutions, more sophisticated examples. Still, I learned few things and understood better what I already knew. If you are totally new to MDX/OLAP concept, this course is for you. And I love that Udemy allows changing the pace of video, watched entire course on 1.5x setting, as the lecturer speaks very slowly :)

The instructor's explanation is amazing. He explains the concepts in great detail. Best course on MDX on Udemy. I am glad, I took this course! Will be doing the other two parts on MDX also by Vikas Munjal

Sound is not in good quality, could be a way better. Everything else is good, presenter speaks slow, which helps better understand the topic

I have gone through a lot of MDX material, but this course was taught in such a way to make the concept of creating measures much easier because he would show query with and without certain key words to show the difference. I especially liked how he wrote a T-SQL query on the same table and columns that were in the MDX expression to arrive at the same results. This was especially helpful for me. The only area I could see where the instructor could improve was he sounded like he was shouting a lot of times in his delivery. Maybe if he could tone it down a couple of notches, it would be a big improvement. It took me some time to get used to his loud tone, but eventually got used to it. Don't go through the course if you have a headache. It will make it worse. Wait until your headache is gone. Other than that, I learned a lot and I'm looking forward to the next MDX Course (Part 2). Thank you, Vikas, for sharing your knowledge.

Very simple explanations of complex problems. I like your visual teaching - a lot of schemas, pictures etc. Good job!

The theory makes sense, but I do regret that some parts are already explained in the free introduction course.

He is clearly explaining the matter though sometimes slightly boring, I know by experience that this is the way a good teacher teaches. It just ensures that everybody understands it and can also keep it in the long-term memory.

I reviewed some of the quizzes before I took my certification exam today, and I wanted to add this email to my review: Subject: passed 70-466 today! And I owe a lot of that to you, Vikas—because I’m not sure if I ever would have gotten over the hump on MDX without your videos. This certification (as with my others)—was never about just passing a test so I could boost my resume. It was about advancing my career through knowledge of interest, and using the certifications to drive my studies. Only when I felt plenty comfortable with the material would I take the test—so even though MDX is a relatively small percentage of the exam, I approached it as if it weren’t. I wanted to be confident in MDX—and once I was, I was able to put my primary focus into SSAS and SSRS. So, the role of your guidance cannot possibly be overstated. By the way, last night I went back and did a couple of your quizzes again on sets/tuples (just to brush up a bit). And once again I was reminded of why you made all the difference. You made things crystal clear that others either glossed over or didn’t explain in the depth that you do. Thanks a million!! Rick ORIGINAL REVIEW BELOW: I'm not a beginner but if I were -- I would very much appreciate how you did this intro. I've watched many videos on MDX, but Vikas' work is what made me see the light (making things so clear that some of it seem obvious in hindsight). That's the mark of a master -- showing you the way on the fundamentals that allow all else to follow. Even on stuff that I had a decent understanding of -- your stuff deepened my understanding. Thank you for your exceptional work!!
