What you will learn

The basics of geometry nodes in Blender

How to think logically about what you want to create

How to build procedural node systems

How to create advanced controllers for your node tree

How to create textures procedurally

Why take this course?

In this course, you’ll learn all the basics of geometry nodes, from basic concepts and how they work to more advanced workflows and building procedural systems.

Content Description

  1. Studying References: in this video, we analyze some real-life references to understand the different components of the bridge and to get an idea of the different details we need to create.

  2. Basics of Geometry Nodes: in this video, we have a quick-fire tutorial on some basic concepts of geometry nodes. This video will get up and running with geometry nodes.

  3. Project Settings: in this video, we will set our project settings to better optimize the scene for all the work we will be doing (adjusting the U.I, render settings, world lighting, add-ons, etc.)

You will also learn some convenient shortcuts that we will use along the course.

  4. Create The Main Ropes: in this video, you will create the four main ropes that constitute the bridge and you will start understanding the logic behind geometry nodes.

  5. Add Thickness to The Ropes: in this video, you will turn the simple curves we created in the previous video into an actual 3D mesh to give the illusion of thickness.

  6. Width & Height Controllers: In this video, we will learn how to create the width and height controllers, so that in the future we can change them easily.

  7. Create The Mounts: In this video, we will create the side mounts. Which are the cement pieces on the edges that hold the bridge together.

  8. Create The Wood Pieces: In this video, we're going to create the wood pieces for the bridge. Then, we will add some distortion to it to make it more realistic. Finally, we will learn how to tell Blender to distribute them along the bridge.

  9. Create The Vertical Ropes: In this video, we're going to create the vertical ropes that hold the bridge together. (Also, to not let people slip for the sides xD). In the end, we will learn how to tell Blender to distribute them along the bridge.

  10. Create The Knots: In this video, we will create some simple knots in the area where the vertical ropes meet the main ropes. In the end, we will learn how to tell Blender to distribute them along the bridge.

  11. Create The Lower Ropes: In this video, we will create some wiggling and curving lower ropes, that will help add more realism to our bridge and really make our bridge looks like a bridge that you will find in the jungle. Also, we will create a bunch of groups to have the flexibility of changing multiple values easily and to better organize our node tree.

  12. Create The Lower Ropes Material: In this video, we will learn how to create procedural material for the ropes.

  13. Create The Wood & Cement Material: In this video, we will create the material for the wood pieces using some PBR textures and create a procedural material for the cement on the mounts.

  14. Final Overview: in this last video, we take a bird-eye view of our bridge and learn some simple, yet really important concepts you need to keep in mind when it comes to working with geometry nodes.

At first, I was very disappointed because the lecturer spoke too fast, like he was in hurry to go back home. But then when the lessons really started, he adjusted the speed, and it became very enjoyable and easy to understand. He explains VERY WELL and it helps a lot to understand the logic behind nodes. It really made me understood in the easy way what are nodes. So, I would say that you will not lose your money by studying this course. I recommend this course to everyone who wants to start geometrical node modeling. One information to note; at some point of the lesson, he uses MixRGB node, but with latest blender version, it doesn't exist anymore. It was replaced by Mix. So just add a Mix node and click on float and selection color, then you will have the equivalent of MixRGB. Except this, all the nodes used were available. Great job teacher. ?

Generally well done. Sometimes hard to follow where connections are between nodes. Would be nice to have lecture appropriate node diagrams to also help follow along and take notes.

TL;DR: Fast and to the point. Very nice introduction to geometry nodes. The course is quite good. Easy to follow and explains the logic behind everything. Unfortunately, I was expecting more content in regards to "how to plan your geometry node" and by that I mean, "how to break down your design in order to implement it". It does that but only for creating a bridge. The knowledge learned here is a nice introduction, but if you plan to build something totally different (like a castle, or a dungeon), there's not so much you will be able to transfer. But as the title says it's about the basics it still gets 5 stars.

The process was very well described. I would have wished for a deeper insight into the sockets. Explaining the types of the sockets e.g. Float, Int, Vector, Color ... It increases the understanding of the system and will help by using unknown nodes in the future. But all in all, very good course.

A nice introduction to Geometry Nodes. Some of the finer details are glossed over a little and a few use-case scenarios for some of the nodes would be useful. Yassine also has a tendency of pronouncing J and G the same, so this might be confusing for some users! Overall, I enjoyed the course and was able to push the learnings a little further than what the course itself provided.

I thought geometry node is very tough, but the introduction gives me a better understanding about geometry node concept. I really like the presentation of the course, so easy to understand.

Yassine's course is designed so that beginners wouldn't get frustrated and advanced users don't get overwhelmed by the details. it is perfect for anyone who's getting started with geometry nodes but has prior experience with Blender.
