What you will learn

Learn how to use SketchUp to create 3D models.

Description

This SketchUp 2013 training course from Infinite Skills teaches you how to model a home from scratch using this popular 3D modeling program. This tutorial is designed for the absolute beginner, meaning no prior experience with SketchUP or 3D modeling is required.

You will start by learning the basics of the drawing tools, and then quickly jump into learning to create different roof types. This course will show you how to organize the model, including creating the second floor and additional openings, using the outliner, and viewing layer states of the model. This video tutorial will show you how to create the different parts of a home, including the ceiling, staircase, doors and windows, fireplace, and kitchen. You will learn how to add furniture using the 3D warehouse and model the furniture from a photograph. You will then move to creating the exterior of the home, from setting the building in place to adding solar panels. Finally, Dan will show you various exporting options and how to create a rendering and animation.

By the completion of this computer based training course, you will be comfortable using many of the basic and complex tools in SketchUp. Working files are included, allowing you to follow along with the author throughout the lessons.

The instructor explains a complex tool like SketchUp in a manner that's easy for beginners, like me, to understand. But I couldn't do anything at the end of the course because all of the features were only in pro, and I'm using free.

I wouldn't have bought this course if I had known that the interface was completely different. Its too old, just go with a more updated version.

The tutorials are quite explanatory and clear, but I feel repetitions should oil would be made on some important points and the roof aspect to be more emphasized. Great work by the tutor overall

the sketchup version is too old and some commands don't correspond. one would have to discover on it's own how thing work in newer versions of sketchup.

Certain necessary information is omitted for the lessons. Some lessons you will see that multiple users have the same questions that the creator hasn't answered. These lessons also seem to be out of date with the current version of SketchUp.

Really good course for beginners. Learned the basics of a model, adding furniture and building renderings. Wish the author spent more time on troubleshooting issues (not limited to SketchUp bugs). Thank you.

Excellent course. From total beginner to someone who can really do things. Easy to follow but some are difficult, but from some total newbie I can now start using sketchup for some minor projects.

If you were impressed by the realistically rendered living room that you saw in the introduction video, what they don't tell you is that it was ultimately rendered using an "inexpensive" plugin called SU Podium that costs $300, and not simply Sketchup. Also, the courses does not seem to have been updated since 2013. You will hit many a roadblocks while you use newer versions of Sketchup, which you have to figure out on your own because the instructor does not answer any questions (it feels like he's abandoned the course many years ago). There are also measurement errors that will make you go crazy, wondering what you did wrong even when you followed through perfectly. If you persist, backtrack through the lessons and discover the instructor's errors (without any Q&A support whatsoever) you will want to kill the instructor while you endure the rest of the course.

So far, so great! I had been trying to figure Sketchup out on my own with little success, until I found this course. I'm learning about the basics at present, in a way that offers tips and tricks I would otherwise never have thought to try. Very excited to learn more.

some steps aren’t clear enough doesn’t motivate you to finish it, could be explained a little better once the stairs and layers and textures are being added in.

Super amazing lecture that helped me build fundamental skills for SketchUp. I was able to get out of my dumb minimum wage job and start freelancing :)
