Hello, I’m Kevin Volo, and I’d like to thank you for checking out my “Learn to Grade Comic Books” course. When you have completed this course and practiced, you will be able to pick up and grade any comic, whether it's one in your collection or that grail book you finally found at a con.

The Learn to Grade Comic Books course is the most comprehensive course of its kind. In it, I walk you step by step through 27 comics at every grade level from 0.1 to 10.0, explaining in detail why they received that grade. For the 25 grade levels from 0.5 to 10.0, I bought and cracked professionally graded books just for these videos – 24 graded by CGC and one by PGX – so that we would have a solid baseline for understanding the criteria at each grade level.

In each video, we move up the grading scale, first examining the CGC graded comic, and then we look at two different comics with the same grade to compare and contrast their differences, because even though they are the same grade, they can look quite different.

We’ll examine these differences and learn additional details of handling, grading, and properly caring for comics in more than 30 1080p HD videos, with high resolution images to help make the details crystal clear. That’s over 8 hours of course content. Plus bonus material!

This course gave me everything I was looking for in terms of comic grading. Like he said, skill will grow with practice so with the knowledge and examples provided in all the sub-modules, plus the handy cheat sheet, I'm confident I'll be able to grade my collection with a great degree of accuracy. I also liked the resource materials and information on storing/archiving comics which helped validate my own practices. Will definitely revisit the modules I need as I go through my collection.

I would have preferred starting at 10 and working my lessons down. As i am looking to grade my books, i am only interested in scores anything above a 9.0.

For each Grade he shows the Overstreet Guide description for that grade and then shows 3 example books of that grade . Was hoping to hear from a pro how exactly he determines the grade for a book . What's the difference between this book and the previous grade ? What's the difference between that 2.5 and this 3.0 ? Are there more tears ? Are there more defects ? He just shows the books and not much more . I already have the Guide and the Guide doesn't totally match CGC's grades anyway . Beginners course like it says in description .

I too am a comic book fanatic both buying and selling, I've had my successes buying comics with low grade values sending them into CGC with high values because I recognized the differences. I developed my own point based system for grading comic books which works really well for comics 4.0 and above but definitely breaks on values below that. I'm getting into the stage of my life where I am able to obtain big(ger) key issues but only in the lowest of grades which I need help with.

Incredibly detailed course, really leaves you with a feeling of confidence when you start looking to grade your own comics. Although comic book grading is, at the end of the day, subjective - Kevin makes it very clear what the grading system means by various descriptions, and the video is so sharp, it captures all the details on the comics he uses as examples. Amazing!

I really like it so far, though I'm not sure the major differences in these lower grades just yet. I don't think I'm far enough into it or at least understand enough of it to know exactly the key differences. I'm doing my best to memorize the information, but the instructor is very knowledgeable in this subject, That much I can tell for certain.

Yes. It is helping me understand the ABC of something I had no clue about. Step by step with three reference comics for each grade, we are taught how to look at defects and grade accordingly. Videos are easy to follow. The resources at the end are a great addition. I own one of the largest collection of Tintin comics ( 124 languages). This course will help me a lot in grading them and most importantly bagging them

This is a great introductory course to comic grading. You can tell the instructor knows his topic and has put a lot of time into the course. The only point I see where it could be improved is response time. Some discussion questions have been unanswered for months. Other than that I definitely recommend it.

Excellent presentation overall. A couple of spots where videos are out of order but no big deal. I recently saw other videos where certain key items were identified as "this is the highest grade this comic can be with that flaw" and I liked that. But overall this is a great way of learning how to grade comics!
