Hey there, creative minds! 👋 I'm Jennifer Lezan, an illustrator, graphic designer, and educator from the Midwest. I run the vibrant Bella + Sophia Creative studio, where we bring our designs to life. Additionally, I manage a thriving Esty shop, constantly seeking innovative ways to showcase my surface pattern design work—especially on social media platforms like Instagram and Facebook.

As I delved into the world of social media promotion, I was captivated by the engaging AR filters on Instastories. These filters are not just fun; they're a powerful promotional tool. 🌟 In this course, we'll explore how to transform your surface pattern designs into dynamic AR filters that can be shared with the world on Instagram and Facebook stories.

What You'll Learn

In this class, we'll embark on a journey from concept to creation using Affinity Designer for iPad and Spark AR studio. Here's a snapshot of what you'll learn:

• Creating Repeats in Affinity Designer: We'll dive into the Affinity workspace, familiarize ourselves with the tools and functions, and start by creating simple repeat patterns that can be applied to backgrounds.

• Design Process in Spark AR Studio: After mastering the basics in Affinity, we'll transfer our designs to Spark AR studio and learn how to transform them into interactive AR filters for Instastories.

• Exporting & Testing: We'll cover how to export files from Affinity Designer to use in Spark AR, and how to load your completed file for review in the Spark AR Hub.

Skills You'll Gain

By the end of this course, you'll have acquired these valuable skills:

• Understanding and using the toolbars and functions in Affinity Designer for iPad.
• Creating simple patterns with the transform tools and brushes available in Affinity.
• Exporting your designs from Affinity to be compatible with Spark AR studio.
• Building an AR filter in Spark AR.
• Preparing and submitting your AR background filter for use on instastories or Facebook stories.

Class Project Overview

For your final project, you'll create a set of 4 seamless repeats intended to be used as backgrounds in Spark AR for Instastories. You'll have a collection of surface pattern designs that can be submitted to the Spark AR Hub. Don't forget to capture screen shots of your filters' previews in SparkAR studio to showcase your work!

Who Is This Class For?

This course is designed for intermediate learners with some basic technical knowledge of Affinity Designer. While familiarity with Spark AR studio is beneficial, I'll guide you through the initial complexities, making the process clear and accessible.
