Great content, great app. Bugs - the video player cuts audio when I fast forward sometimes. And, in dark mode, this review box that I’m writing in on the app has white text on a white background, making it extremely hard to see.
Do you like reading a textbook to learn a course? If so, then this course is for you. If you prefer to have hands on exercises with challenging questions that force you to actually write Ruby programs, this is a waste of time. I made it about halfway through before giving up.
So far the course has been a great introduction to the ruby language it offers lots of advice and material on where to get more information
The browser player version is much better in resizing the content. The only “Win” for the App is the ability to download the course for offline viewing when traveling overseas.
The tutorial is excellent and all the samples helped a lot in learning ruby programming very much.
Will recommend this tutorial to any beginner.
The first thing I should mention about this course is that the accent of the instructor is terrific. That's not something you come across with often. Apart from that, in general, it's a well prepared course. However, if you are really really a beginner to the programming world, this course talks about the methods and classes early in the chapters. So in that sense, those topics should have been later in the course.
This teacher is very knowledgeable on the subject matter. His demeanor is very warm, and he is excellent at explaining things. He's so good, I ordered The Big Book of Ruby .
Thorough explanations and very professional presentation. I have not purchased many courses at udemy.com, but so far this course ranks at the top of the list.
This class explains the concepts well. I feel as though there should be a little more information to help users install the necessary programs. If I hadn't stumbled upon visual studio I would have been lost, as SciTE would continually run only once on my laptop before it return error messages with the exact same hello world program I later got to work effortlessly on visual studio. I really like the way the instructor delves into concepts in great detail.
A rather good introduction to Ruby, though the mentioned version numbers for Ruby differ by quite a bit from current versions may confuse many true beginners.
As a beginner I like to start at the beginning and this instructor has done a good job of explaining the basic which are intuitive to him, but simply unknown to me.
Amazing teacher. Mr. Collingbourne gets you through every step needed to master the basics of Ruby. Sometimes I got annoyed that the teacher was explaining everything in so much detail, every little thing that looked so simple. But in the end, all the little details and all the extra explications really come in handy.
Take this course, listen to this man, he has a lot to offer.
Well, now I'm going to my Advance Ruby Programming: 10 Steps to Mastery course, because I'm sure that Mr. Collingbourne has yet, a lot of things to teach me.
Huw knows his stuff, is well-rehearsed, and provides lots of additional support content and samples to work with. I've also signed up for the advanced course and looking forward to working through more of his content.
It was a very comprehensive course on Ruby covering a lot of material. There was a problem with the audio where I had bump the sound all the way up to hear it. Interesting language, but probably not useful for me. I am trying to stay gainfully employed for the next 10 years (currently doing mainframe) so data science is probably my best bet. Thank you.
Honestly, I've tried out a dozen different courses on scripting/programming languages and this one, by far, out does them all.
It provides the best analogies for all the things ruby. I'm advancing in my career because of what I've learned and am now able to do with Ruby, from this course.
Thank you so so much!
