Why take this course?

What are HTML5 and CSS3, and why are people so excited about them? In this workshop, the first of a three-part series, an expert author introduces you to these emerging technologies and why they are going to change the world of web development. You’ll learn how to work with new HTML5 features like semantic tags, the selector API, new form input controls, improved accessibility, and more. You’ll also get up to speed on the basics of CSS3, from creating drop shadows and rounded corners to working with transforms, selectors, and web fonts.

In this workshop you’ll be introduced to the fundamentals of web development with HTM5 and CSS3. The contents of this course include:

Introduction to HTML5
This chapter gives an overview of the purpose and scope of HTML5 and CSS3, and summarizes the key features.

Creating HTML Content
In this chapter you’ll learn how to structure an HTML document using semantic tags and how to locate content quickly by using the HTML5 Selector API.

Development Tools and Debugging
This chapter explores popular HTML5 IDEs and browser developer tools, and shows how to use Modernizr to test for HTML5 feature support.

Forms Input
This chapter explores the new form controls in HTML5 and also demonstrates how to use the new File Handling API.

Accessibility
This chapter explains how to use the accessibility features in HTML5, which aid assistive technologies such as screen readers.

Using CSS3 Effectively
This chapter explores the new features in CSS3, which can be used alongside HTML5 to define the presentation layout for web pages.

The lessons are wrapped in a feature-rich interface that lets you jump to any topic and bookmark individual sections for later review. Full-Screen mode provides a hi-def, immersive experience, and Watch-and-Work mode shrinks the video into a small window so you can play the videos alongside your application. Also included are exercise files that give you an easy way to try out the techniques you learn.

A better title for this course might be 'Brief feature list of HTML5 and CSS3 which beginners might use.' The title of this course is very misleading. Because of the use of the word 'scratch' this makes you think that this course is for beginners and because of the word 'learn' this title makes it seem as though this course is going to provide people with no knowledge of HTML5 & CSS3 how to use these two things. But that is not so with this course.

If you only know the bare necessities about HTML and CSS, this will help a lot. If not, then you could learn more by looking on the W3 website. Also, the video quality is low so it's tough to see what he has as a code.

This course is not for those who have zero knowledge of html and css, it might confuse or even frustrate them. However, this is a good course for those that have some knowledge on previous iterations of html and want to know what's new and the new improvements it presents

Very useful concepts are shown here and the examples are very clear. The summary at the end of each lesson is a very good idea.

More of an informational course rather than a study. There are some advanced javascript points and even mention of .net and unless you have prior knowledge you may seem a bit lost. Not recommended for beginners.

The entire course is very well covered many fundamentals of HTM5 & CSS3, comparing with other 3 or 4 courses I took. Furthermore, the instructor has well prepared and spoken the lectures.

The Course Tells that it will teach us Html/CSS but the story seems to be totally different. It would have been much better if the course name was Learn few techniques in Html/CSS.

Nice explanation of concepts. It would be good to cover the topics gelocation, localstorage, touch events, drag and drop.

Whilst the instructor is intelligent within his field, he does not train. I watched the first 6 videos and there was not any specific training to do anything. As a teacher myself, I would receive very poor marks if I merely told my students information but did not teach them any skills to practice the information. Now, if this was a university lecture hall - full marks - but teaching HTML5/CSS3 from scratch suggests a beginning course wherein there is practice and feedback to build the confidence of the learner, which in my experience is Teaching 101.

This is a good place to start learning about HTML5 and CSS3. You are guided through examples, and get files to try and test yourself.

While the course assumes greater familiarity with JavaScript than I was prepared for in several places, it is a good resource for those already familiar with basic HTML/CSS wanting to catch up with changes in HTML5 and CSS3, or those needing to take their skills to a higher level.

Great information, great explanations (only partway through but really liking this) and the best part of all... the instructor's accent. His accent is so awesome that it keeps me engaged and paying attention to hear how he pronounces things. I'm serious. Some courses skimp on the audio, this one does not. A+ for audio

This course is very good for a begininger learning web design. I am fluent in other programming languages so I understood it and I loved the course! I recommend for everyone to take this! It is a wonderful opportunity

Reading "From scratch" i presumed this would be for beginners. I was wrong. The instructor goes way too fast and barely explains the basics (which is what i'd expect with "From Scratch", i already understand a lot of HTML and this still managed to confuse me, in no way is this "From Scratch") If you don't understand anything about HTML (or even just a little bit for that matter) this course is not for you, there are many better ones (Like Ryan) that explain everything more clearly and at a better pace. I've dropped this course.

He did an awesome job and provided great explanation. The only thing the course was too short and I don't think it is totally suitable to a complete beginner.
