What is DAX in Power BI?

DAX stands for Data Analysis Expressions i.e. such expressions or formulas that are used for data analysis and calculations. These expressions are a collection and combination of functions, operators, and constants that are evaluated as one formula to produce results (value or values). DAX formulas are very useful in BI tools like Power BI as they help data analysts to use the data sets they have to the fullest potential.

Why learn DAX is important?

Learning DAX is essential to build dynamic dashboards. It uses in Power BI desktop, SQL Server Analysis Services (Tabular mode), and Microsoft Excel. It is a formula language that needs tables to perform calculations.

Soul of Power BI
The core of learning Power BI DAX is its context. There are two types of contexts, the first one is the filter context, and the second one is the row context. These context works together whenever you write any dax expression. I will explain these contexts with the help of simple examples. If you have solid concepts regarding filter context, row context, and context transition, then you can solve any complexity quickly.

With the help of the DAX language, analysts can discover new ways to calculate data values they have and come up with fresh insights.

I think it is a little bit messy, there are many tables in the videos that were not provided. However; the scope of the course is quite good.

The course is very comprehensive and covers a lot of topics. Some topics could be explained better and all the data should be provided to enable an easier follow along. Overall I have thoroughly enjoyed this course and it has provided me with a good foundation to start practicing on my own. I will revisit sections for a refresh as and when it is required.

Concepts are explained with a simple dataset. As a developer all the DAX were covered. I liked the content very much.... Optimization techniques and few tips n tricks would could be added. Overall it's a good one for developers and DAX learners.

Content is not organized properly. Can't find related files for some videos in resources. Also try to add some more functions. Instructor is very knowledgeable about concept of DAX. Only what he needs is organizing the course in a better way. This course carries the potential to become a bestseller.

The topic is very interesting and useful, and the content of the course is very complete. Subtitles, silence, pronunciation, words and expressions makes this course a bit hard to keep on track.. it's 4hs course but it takes much time to go through since it gets kind of boring and sometimes slow.

So far a good match. Already familiar with how PowerBI works, I really wanted details on how to incorporate DAX to perform more advanced calculations. Watching the demonstrations was very helpful, the explanations were thorough. While I appreciated that some of the videos were zoomed in so it was easy to see the screen, something it was a little TOO zoomed in and difficult to see all the elements on the page.
