Our review

Course Review: Comprehensive Web Design and Development

Overall Rating: 4.13

Pros:

  • Inclusive Content Coverage: The course offers a complete introduction to web design and development, touching on responsive design, frameworks, and providing hands-on practice at the end of the course where learners create their own page incorporating all they've learned.

  • Engaging Material: The content is engaging and clear, making it optimal for newbies who are looking to understand the basics of web designing. It is praised for its thorough explanations that enable learners to inspect pages with intention and create simple HTML and CSS.

  • Real-World Application: The course allows learners to apply what they've learned in real-world scenarios, which is crucial for practical comprehension and mastery.

  • Positive Impact on Learning: Many reviewers have reported a significant improvement in their understanding of web design, thanks to the quality of instruction and explanations provided.

Cons:

  • Pacing Issues: Some lectures are reported to move too quickly, making it difficult for learners to grasp all the concepts and follow along with examples given in the video. This has been a recurring issue in recent reviews.

  • Lack of Shortcuts Mentioned: A few reviewers have mentioned that while the course is great, it would be even better if it included information on keyboard shortcuts to speed up workflows.

  • Specificity in Tool Usage: There are instances where the lecturer uses specific software (like Sublime Text) without explaining which buttons or functions are being interacted with. This can create confusion, especially for beginners who may not have the same setup.

  • Assumptions of Prior Knowledge: At times, the instructor assumes familiarity with certain concepts or reasonings behind code choices, potentially leaving some learners behind.

User Experience Comments:

  • "The lecturer tends to move a bit fast and can't get enough time to play the examples given in the video."

  • "I loved it because it touches on responsive design and frameworks. At the end, you make a page with all the issues that were learned. Very good course to start learning."

  • "Wow, Great! It will be better if we know some shortcut too. To speed up things, but this class should get more than 5 stars."

  • "He was soo fast I can not follow. He was using Sublime but different from mine, he didn't even explain where he launched this 'hello world' and what button he clicked. He should be saying 'after we type this, we will save this file by clicking this button and then...'" (Note: Multiple users mentioned rewinding frequently to understand how the lecturer launched his project.)

  • "Very complete and clear explanations, optimal for newbie. I now understand the basics of web designing, I'm able to inspect a page with intentions and create simple customed HTML and CSS. Not giving 5/5 because sometimes gives for granted certain concepts or reasonings behind the codes he's writing. Will for sure suggest it."

As a course reviewer, my recommendation would be to address the pacing issues and add instructional details on commonly used tools and shortcuts. This would enhance the learning experience and ensure that all students can follow along without having to constantly rewind videos. Despite these cons, the course continues to get high marks for its comprehensive content and clear explanations. With a few adjustments, it could improve its course delivery to even better serve learners of all levels.
