This is a general course for people with little or no experience producing electronic music. This course will cover all general aspects of music-making (key, pitch, form, harmony), through basic audio concepts (waveforms, frequency spectrum, etc.) ending at basic concepts of synthesis and MIDI.

The class will be taught by J. Anthony Allen (Ph.D.), an instructor of music composition at Slam Academy, McNally Smith College of Music, and an Ableton Certified Trainer. All ages and skill levels are welcome.

My Promise to You:

I am a full-time music producer, composer, and Educator. If you have any questions please post them in the class or send me a direct message. I will respond within 24 hours. And if you find this class isn't for you, I am more than happy for you to take advantage of the 30-day money-back guarantee. No questions asked.

In addition to being a composer and educator,  I also have a Ph.D. in music, I am a university music professor, and have a long list of awards for teaching.

But more importantly: I use this stuff every day. I write music professionally, I am an active guitarist, and I stay on top of all the latest production techniques, workflows, and styles. As you will see in this class, I just love this stuff. And I love teaching it.

Let's get started!

See you in lesson 1.

All best,

Jason (but call me Jay...)

Very good introduction to computer-generated music and production. Apart from the totally poor quality of the videos, I recommend this course to anyone interested in the subject.

sort of a rambling monologue about technology and terminology to get started. not exactly captivating. I'm sure Jason is very knowledgeable and look forward to getting into some actual meat for producing music. This could be much more engaging if the sounds within the DAW could be heard. Seeing a visual change of a waveform is not as informative as hearing it as well.

J is knowledgeable about all facets of electronic music. I don't question that. However, it takes a certain level of commitment and a high degree of focus to remain fully engaged in these lectures. They are much longer than the average successful courses chapters. Delivery is the only caveat to this gold mine of information.

Good content, but J's speech is a bit messy and quick from the point of view of non-english speaker. Also video quality is bad. Anyway cool for now

Very interesting introduction to digital audio, past and present. Definitely worth taking this course if you're just getting started in digital audio.

I've played an instrument back in grade school, but electronic music is a different world altogether. This was a great quick intro to this other world, and I'm excited to take Jason's other music courses! The videos (except for the bonus videos) are capped at 720p, so it's hard to read the detail on his screen, but Jason does a great job at acknowledging this and he uses both visual and audio cues to help.

This course is great If you are just starting with electronic music production, you will learn the basics. Jason does a thorough explanation of what you need to know before you get started.

If your totally brand new to electronic and want to learn the basics this the course to start with. I've learned so much (on my own time) and I am able to understand all of the information and content. This is a really great course overall for introduction.

its fun easy to understand, you get some fun facts on audio history, also suggestions on what daw you should use (digital audio workspace) and some solid pointers on getting started with them and with electronic music production.

My favorites - Section 2 (MIDI), Section 3 (Synthesis) and Section 4 (bonus content). Awesome tutorials with in-depth coverage and going that extra-mile. Keep it coming... Would you be able to create courses on Roland JD-Xi Digital/Analog cross-over synthesizer with Cubasis, NanoStudio, Logic, etc on iPad/Mac?

I really enjoyed this course. Professor Allen was very clear as well as engaging in his instruction of this course. He is very passionate about the subject especially the brief history segments. I loved working with him. He is a wonderful teacher. I highly recommend him.

I feel that I have a much better grasp on the general overview of production. Would definitely recommend for beginners, and I really enjoyed the history of analog and digital audio. The video quality could be a little crisper, but Dr. Allen presents the content in a very easy to understand format.

Speaking from the perspective of someone with no knowledge of music beyond say middle school band I would have to give a big thumbs up here. Very easy to digest overview of an extremely foreign topic. I'd definately recommend to any beginner looking to get an initial understanding of the inner-workings of EDM.
