Description

Real Student Reviews:

"Fantastic course, it covers all you need to know about moving web-sites both ways; and backing up a complete copy of the existing site. Very handy it things go pear shaped. I have my first web-site to up-grade and make responsive. My client want's to leave his old web-site up until the new one is ready. This means copying the site to my laptop (local-host), modifying it, testing it then uploading it. Anytime i've being stuck! Support from Andy and the other students has always solved any problems i've had. Would highly recommend all his courses they are straight to the point no waffle. "

"This class is extremely easy to follow. Andy's instructional pace was easy to follow. Wasn't as tough as I thought it might be based on my lack of experience. Success with the class motivates me to continue working on educating myself on web page design. Thanks!"

"My firsdt Udemy Course and my first Wordpress tutorial. It gave me a wonderful start. I did my first install of wordpress locally without any issues following this tutorial step by step. I can now do everything on wordpress without worrying about any monthly charges. Thanks Andy. "

"Andrew is a great instructor and I love his flexibility in providing solutions to his students problems. I was having problems applying some of the concepts to my MacBook but once I reached out to Andrew, he when back to the drawing board and provided clear instructions for us mac users. I have the pleasure of taking some of his others courses which has the same high level of content and support."

"The usual high quality from Andy. If you want to test your website building skills, before committing to hosting and exposing to the world, then this is the way to do it. Clearly laid out and easy to follow. A great teacher."

"Loved this course. Andy's lectures were thorough but I was never bored. In each lecture I was saying "I didn't know I could do that without blowing up my computer" (lol) or "Oh, so that's how you do that!" I took my time and enjoyed every minute of it. Thanks, Andy!"

Why Install Wordpress Locally?

Have you ever wanted to learn Wordpress but didn't want the expense of setting up and maintaining web hosting?  Then this course is for you.  This course will show you how you can install Wordpress on your own computer, install plugins and themes and set up a website without web hosting or any other expenses.  The software and tools we will use are 100% free.

We'll start off by looking at the main reasons why someone might like to install Wordpress locally on their own computer.  You will then learn how to do this for yourself, even if you don't think you are technically minded.

This course will show you:

  1. All of the tools that you will need.  These are all 100% free.

  2. How to download and install a local server environment so Wordpress can work.

  3. How to create a database for your Wordpress site.

  4. How to download and install Wordpress into the local environment.

  5. How to login to your Dashboard, and the main reason it does not work in the local environment.

  6. How to close down Wordpress and your local server correctly.

  7. Installing themes and plugins, and how to increase the default 2MB upload limit.

In short, this course will teach you how to install Wordpress on your PC or Mac computer, no experience required.  Whether you simply want to learn Wordpress without the expense of paying for a web host, or you are a developer wanting to test a plugin or theme, this course will guide you step-by-step through the local installation.

Please note that when you install Wordpress on your own computer, the site will not be live on the internet.  For that, you need a web host.  Installing locally is a great option for anyone wanting to learn how to use Wordpress without the expense of a web host or domain.  It is also a great option for anyone who wants to develop a website, theme or plugin before going live with it.n Whatever your reason, this course will show you how to install WordPress on your own computer using 100% free tools.

Great so far everything up to the install of wordpress is there as the instructor has stated. However I am still learning so I will re-run the transfer process when I know what I am doing. Great class

The course provided clear, detailed steps to allow you to accomplish it's stated objective. Some steps do require one to read and understand what is being done, but doing so will yield the desired results!

The instructor was detailed and clear in his explanation of how to create a local Wordpress website, as well as how to move a local to online and back again. Andrew's teaching style is great and the knowledge he shares and how he shares it (with examples) is just fantastic. I recommend Dr. Williams courses to anyone, beginner to advanced, you will learn something no matter who you are.

I went from knowing nothing about servers nor Wordpress to making a basic site and activating it for use! As long as you can follow step by step instructions doing what you see in the course screen on your own screen, you should be able to as well.

Great course! It became a little rushed towards the end...Cramming a lot of information into the videos without real clear explanation for particular actions. I think the intent could be captured/understood with additional reviews of the material/videos in question. Overall I'm on-less grateful, I like your presentation and I've bought your book. Thanks again & "Happy New Year" <<Appreciated>>

I have tried numerous times in the last many years to setup XAMPP by myself. I've alway gotten confused and wondered away. My husband would fix it, yes, but I would never feel like I really knew what was going on. This instructor was so clear, so on point that I feel like I finally get it. And like I could do it again in a second if needed (both the xampp and wordpress setup). I can't tell you how impressed I am, and how appreciative. I'm saving the last two sections until I have everything together. And, I know that I can come here and get the instruction I need (without any confusion or fluff) to take it to the web. Awesome! Thanks!!!

Andy's lectures were very good because they were fairly complete and understandable. There's no question that you will learn how to move a wordpress site back and forth between your local computer and a hosting site. I subtracted a 1/2 star because I use an iMac, and the lectures weren't really designed for an iMac. Also I could not get the wp-migrate plugin in the course to work because of utf-xxx database conversion errors (which should not have been a problem). So I had to find and use a different plugin (wp all in one migration, excellent). If you use an iMac, see my notes in the question area. Now I'm on to some of my other 8 courses by Andy. Best wishes to everyone.

Instructor knows his topics well. It was a little fast and I will have to go over it quite a few times. I am glad he will address questions because I am sure I will run across stumbling blocks. Hope this works on MACs. It should if the files he provided are still current. Thanks. I learned quite a bit.

I enjoyed the course but faced some local issues (not covered) when setting up the local Wordpress environment on my PC which were related to previous installations of Apache, MySQL and PHP. It is a bit of a big ask to expect all scenarios to be covered though and I got there in the end! I found the export (local -> web server) and import (web server -> to local) especially interesting as I will have to do this once I have completed a static (HTML) web site to WP conversion. Any pointers on achieving that would be very good to know! I noticed that you used tools such as cPanel, cache manager etc.during the course and any further information on the benefits of them would be good to know.

I just want to say, Thank You So Much for providing this course! Last night and through to this morning I was ready to rip my hair out and give up altogether with this Wordpress business. I had previously tried to use Wordpress.com and then tried to install Wordpress with Wampserver which was seriously frustrating because I ran into so many problems and found no clear solutions on the internet. Then I found your course and now I have successfully installed wordpress locally onto my computer!! Absolutely wonderful! I am now going to take your Wordpress Beginners Course :) Thank you again for such a helpful course! P.S I've bought 6 courses on Udemy so far, and yours is the first that I have had to write a Thank You to, because you've really helped to solve a frustrating problem for me.
