Business Requirements, Stakeholder Requirements, Epics, and User Stories define business needs in business terminology that all involved parties can understand, but the devil lies in the detail. Solution Providers (i.e., those responsible for building, buying, assembling, or configuring an IT application) need to know what the application will do, what data it will deal with, and what additional qualities it requires to satisfy the business needs. In other words, they need Functional and Non-functional (aka Solution) Requirements at a level of detail that most subject matter experts can only provide when prompted and led.

In this course, you will learn simple and repeatable techniques for extracting solution-level specifications from requirements and user stories. The presented techniques will help you identify specific functions the solution needs, data it requires, and data it produces. You will also discover hidden, non-functional needs (e.g., performance, usability, reliability, etc.) related to the functions.

In our newest edition, the course introduces the exciting new AI Writing Assistant Jasper which helps teams decompose requirements or user stories into functional and data elements with greater speed and accuracy than ever before! Get ready to unlock the power of AI-assisted requirements decomposition with the functional and non-functional requirements course. Join us today and maximize your team's productivity!

My co-author, Angela, and I have used these techniques on hundreds of IT projects around the globe and we know the value each provides. Using these approaches will improve your ability to identify and document requirements at the level of detail that solution providers (vendors or developers) need to deliver the right technology for their organization.

The presented techniques will work on any set of well-expressed requirement statements or user stories.

Regardless of your job title or role, if you are involved in defining future business solutions, this course will help you communicate your business needs to solution providers. It will reduce or eliminate misunderstandings that undermine IT’s ability to deliver the right digital solutions for your business.

How to get the most out of this course?

To maximize the learning effect, you will have optional assignments to assess your understanding of each presented technique. They do not “test” your knowledge in the conventional sense. Their purpose is to demonstrate the use of the technique more real-life than our explanations can supply. We hope you enjoy them and that they make it easier for you to apply the techniques in real life.

This course was good and refreshing, as the instructor not only provided excellent information about the requirements but also taught the elemental functions of a good tool to help us gathering the requirements.

I liked that the analysis was dummied down for a better understanding as this is not something I do daily.

some concepts are not even explained and some are very introductory, not enough information to develop a BRD on our own

Some parts are easy to follow and some have gone through a lot of complex terms quickly but it seems we are going back through the terms in more detail.

good graphics but some elements could be corrected (e.g. performance and usability are not the same) and resource material for download was not as expected.

Small but full of gems, I would recommended for experienced BAs because you might have already lived this topic to understand how practical the purpose of this course is

Too much details...the application to AI Writer Jasper is interesting but too long. Find the quiz very hard too answer Didn't feel that it helped so much beside the fact of explaining Functional Requirements (FR) and NFR

Excellent course. It is a small and consistent lecture of functional and no functional requirements. It is recomented to you if you are in a rush or have to learn the basics. Half of the course is about using an AI tool to write requirements, this can be really helpful but not a main part of the topics.

This course further explained the differences between Functional and Non-Functional Requirements and how they relate to each other.

This course was very engaging throughout. The assignments within the sections built on each other and enable one to put what they've learned into practice.

Me gustó la forma de la explicación, pero no me gusta mucho las tareas porque siento que se pierde un poco la secuencia. en lo personal prefiero más los cuestionarios, muchas gracias

Yes. It further reinforces my own requirements gathering practice collected from years of trial and experiences.

This was a good introductory overview for functional and non functional requirement gathering, I did feel like the assignments were difficult to understand and that the answers are not clear cut, I think this distinction should have been made that there are no right or wrong answers just those that could be applicable to what is being asked.
