Melodies...Most people will say that it is the most important element of music. And it is indeed the main spotlight that guides the listeners attention, and leads the action of your music story.

Now, here is your most important lesson:

Melodies are the focus of music. Without leading melodies your music will take the backseat, and be pushed into the background. Which can for example be great for writing music to a specific scene of a movie where the music must be there only to complement the emotional vibe of the picture, while not drawing attention to itself. Now, for the vast majority of music, especially the kind of music you listen to on its own...you really need a leading melody to grab the listeners attention, and make him want to complete your story. The melodies have the potential of carrying so much emotional power. The expressiveness and human character of a good melody, it is truly the reason why melodies are the element of music that people remember the most.

Always love Mikael’s courses as they are so easy to follow with great excellent guidance, learn so much but also leaves you with a much better idea of how to start putting your own inspiration into your music and how. Highly recommend Mikael’s courses!!

I was hoping for "how to choose the notes of a melody", but this focuses on making your melody interesting and fitting the mood. Great stuff, though!

I was looking for a course about melodies in song context. I did not realize this course was focusing on games/movies scores music. Not for me.

It was extremely helpful to think of rhythm as the pulse, harmony as the depth, melody as the focus, and ambience as the mood. This course gives to you so many options for your own creativity, like using full chords with bass. So much important information and tips for creating depth. Thanks so much, Mike!

The course is filled with valuable tips and guidelines for working with the melodic component of our compositions. I appreciate the use of examples which are helpful, but could be a bit more thorough. I don't feel I am walking away with the knowledge on how to create melodies. Rather, I've learned a great deal about how to enhance and embellish melodies with other components of the composition.

The Instructor/Presenter is very easy to listen to, with interjects of humour while learning practical parts of music theory without the pain. Well done. I have purchased almost all his courses and have learned quite a lot. No fluff, just practical information.

This course should be the first one you take after music theory. All the production and sound design experience won't help if your music sucks.

This course is absolutely pure gold. Mike not only dissects meticulously what a melody is into its tiniest details, but also provides some invaluable advices on how to compose and arrange the main theme in your compositions. In brief, if you really want to significantly improve the quality of your melodies, I seriously doubt you will find a better course than this.

This course was not quite what I was expecting, but it was still brilliant. I am about 1 year into music composition and I am probably about beginner to low amateur level. I was hoping for a course that would describe how to actually come up with good, catchy melodies as that is something I really struggle with. This course will not teach you that, at least not how I interpreted it. Although, he does give some tips of how you might get started with coming up with your own melodies. What this course does do is teach you how to arrange a melody, once you already have one in your head. There are some very valuable tips and tricks in there as well. For someone who hasn't been doing this very long the course is great because I've heard of some of these terms (e.g. voice leading) before, but never really understood them or known how to apply them to a melody. This course has all that knowledge all in one place, explained clearly and put into context with some great examples as you go along.

I've done nearly all of Mr. Baggstrom's courses, because he's a fantastic tutor; and in each lesson you'll learn something new - even if you thought you already knew it. However, the only thing that I miss from his courses is comprehensive summaries of lessons that I can actually print out for reference. It's not easy to progress if you constantly have to page through lessons in search of something, or constantly stop and rewind to write everything down. Nevertheless, all my thumbs up to Mikael for fantastic, useable material.

No fluff, straight to the point every time. Consistent quality. Great audio; pronunciation is crystal clear, and the audio is professionally edited. Perfect balance between being accessible for relative beginners and offering insight for more experienced composers. I use a completely different DAW to make completely different music from what the instructor uses and makes, respectively; but none of the content is dependent on any particular tool. The concepts are explained in a clear and "modular" way, building up in layers. It's easy to understand how to apply these principles, patterns, and techniques to any sort of composition, not just a particular style or use case. While the instructor clearly has a background focused on soundtracks, they explain every concept with such a well-structured mental model that I can instantly see how these same concepts apply to psytrance. Overall, this series is well above par for a Udemy course. The first section condenses practically a whole semester of real-life school into a highly-optimized package with zero filler. The audio quality is possibly the best I've heard out of a double-digit number of other Udemy courses. I'm going to buy more of the instructor's courses, even though some of them sound like they have overlap, just because of the high value I've gotten out of just a fraction of this course.

Another very great course, it gave once again a overall picture of composing techniques and the different styles, although i'll be evaluating now if i can adapt it all to my main melodic instrument which is the guitar or if it's better to start learning the piano.

This course assumes you have used a DAW and that you already know what Rhythm, Harmony, Melody, and Ambience actually mean/are.
