Why take this course?

This course as created as a result of requests of students who wanted to have a single example of a Modbus-enabled RS485 device being taken "out of the box" and the steps taken to connect the device onto a Modbus RS485 network where it's data values could be read and displayed.

The course uses a Temperature / Humidity sensor that has Modbus RS485 capability, as the device to be connected to the Modbus network. The documentation associated with the device is analyzed and is then used to configure Modbus master test software, where register addresses are confirmed.

The device is connected to a PC via a USB-to-RS485 converter. 

After verification of data register addresses, a Human Machine Interface (HMI) application is created using an application called Winlog Lite. The HMI application is then used to read the data values from the Modbus device and display those values in a user-friendly format.

The course is extremely practical and steps he student through the complete process in a very systematic and logical manner. As the software tools are all free trials, the student will be able to download the applications and practice further.

It is nice introduction if you need to start reading Modbus sensor quickly and don't have much time. Course is well structured and great for total beginners. It was bit too shallow for my liking. I would like to see more information and examples in both Modscan32 and HMI section with some basic Modbus theory. But I understand that author has different courses for that. Overaly good course. Thank You!

Positive Points: ========== 1) Excellent presentation clear audio and matching slides. 2) Very well presented course on using Modbus RS485 to read from a temp sensor. 3) Very well spoken, with clearly spoken English, which is refreshing because his dialog is easy to follow and understand. 4) Each section includes a word document addendum to the videos, providing additional notes as for that particular video/section. Because of this extra effort by the instructor, as well as the clear articulation, I gave a rating of 5.0. Negative Points: ========== 1) This is not really a negative, but is a comment or all Udemy instructors. It would be nice to give brief notes document, summarizing each section/video, that students can refer back to. This basically remove the burden of the student having to write notes. I realize that when the student writes notes, that is also part of the learning process. But having a Notes/Summary for each section document would be fantastic.

I feel the course delivered the information required to complete an understading of MODBUS connected instruments, the course is good value for money. The inclusion and use of other software was a very useful lesson. Unfortunately living in the UK has made it difficult to obtain the Temperature / Humidity sensor used in the course it carries a horrendous cost towards the course as was in excess of over 200 dollars so the course cost ramped due to this. It is always good to follow a course through to its conclusion so I think perhaps using readily available low cost instruments for demonstration purposes would be better option. Otherwise Brilliant. Great for collecting information and learning basics but, The course is on how to read a Modbus temp sensor and half way through the module I still have not seen any data collection or setting up of the sensor nor setting up the Modbus.
