Why take this course?

Here are a few quotes from the reviews for the course:

  • "This is by far the BEST GameMaker Studio 2 tutorial I've ever taken!  ... this course is SO. MUCH. FUN."  - Frank

  • "Without a doubt, this is the best content I have found on learning GMS2: the instructor is obviously an expert in both GM and programming; the pacing is spot-on, the material is excellent and really teaches best practices. It really stands out as the best of all the paid and free tutorials on Gamemaker." - Craig

  • "Without a doubt one of the best Game Maker courses I've seen across all online learning websites. - Jason"

  • "This is a COMPLETE Course and its not just another introduction or beginners guide." - Ashanthra

Well have you always wanted to make your own game, but didn't know how?

This course will teach you how to build a very polished and professional looking game, in a short time.  You will learn many tricks and techniques that can then be applied to making your own games.  The possibilities are endless once you've gained these programming skills and you'll be experienced enough to start the process of turning your own ideas into actual working games.

The game you will learn to build here is very slick and professional and is a great platform from which to grow your skills.  This could be the start of your game development career, or just a fun hobby, but either way I look forward to assisting you in your journey.

Within the course you will learn:

  • Finite State Machines (The absolute best way to structure your code)

  • Tile Based Collisions (Extremely fast collision method)

  • Cool looking psuedo particles (That interact with the environment)

  • Lighting Systems (That service multiple objects)

  • Scripted enemies and sequences (including enemy spawning)

  • Room Fade Transitions, highscore saving, custom tooltips and much more!

All the graphics and code is supplied, all you need to do is start learning and you could be making and releasing your own games sooner then you think.  Every lecture is also presented in 1080p/60fps for maximum clarity while learning.

Gamemaker is free to download and use.

The course is taught by Peter Morgan.  A former Mathematics and Computer High School Teacher who has studied the game making process, and products, for many years.  I have previously used Gamemaker to release my first mobile game and currently work on assisting others to do the same.

Note: All code is yours to use as you like.  Some graphic assets are public domain (tile sets, enemies) but some are copyright to Peter Morgan 2021 (player character, background, gui elements, game name and title page) and are not authorized for posting on Steam.

It's alright if you have previous coding knowledge, but then it just becomes a "how to use the software" sort of tutorial. I would recommend it to beginner to intermediate levels. At first I would rate it 4.5 stars, but one question I asked, I never received a reply for MONTHS (and still didn't, and now it's not even important anymore). That said, I went after more questions and saw that the majority does not have an answer. While I understand it can be overwhelming to answer them all, seeing the amount of unanswered questions is just upsetting. The instructor talks clearly, on a good pace, and the structure of the course is well done. The assets are also pretty cool. I recommend buying it when on price off.

It was quite relaxing viewing this course, but i found it a bit confusing when we had to use diferent parts of code from another version of GameMaker.

I had a really great time going through this course! I've done a handful of YouTube tutorials and dabbled around in different IDEs until I settled on GameMaker. I found this course and am grateful for all of the content presented to me. It was very clear and concise, and I learned more than expected. Thank you, Peter, for taking the time to put all of this together! ! !

A very helpful and satisfying course. It was satisfying to hit the F5 button and see the improvements after every lesson. :) Pros: - Structured lessons to build a complete platformer. Better than watching random youtube tutorials all over the place. - Clear explanation of each step so you don't just blindly follow. - Good practices on organizing and naming assets. - Lots of content. Cons: - Need to make some small changes if you are using the latest GM. - Voice can be too soft and unclear sometimes. Also, GameMaker is more fun and performant than I expected. I would recommend it if you are undecided on which game engine to use. GM lets you handle everything in code (e.g. graphics, sound, camera) and focus on writing functional programming to get your game up and running quickly.

I would like to rate this course higher note but it has been a disappointment for me. It started well but I will leave it after 1.8 because it is very confusing for beginners, not due to GameMaker but due to ''ohh this has been updated in GameMaker2, you just follow this like I do show in this short video, but for the rest of the course you will see differently in the course''. It is just very confusing. Just record a brand new video with all the changes and let us pay for it :)

This is a great course. Easy to understand and filled packed with information to grow outside of the training package. Highly Recommended

I am extremely satisfied, as I have been programming apps for decades and stopped writing games over 20 years ago, this course was a refreshing update on today's tools for writing pixel games. I can only advise everyone to do this course first for little money and then watch more in-depth videos on YouTube, because all this builds on basics, it is otherwise a waste of time and leads nowhere. I personally hope that Peter will create more courses!

Overall was a great course. If you are using the newest version of game makers 2 you will have to make changes to some of the code.

Yes, very good, but some things are skipped a bit quickly especially navigating around the system and clicking specific options. Had to replay several times to see what was being clicked on. But over all very good so far.

the instructor helped me several times throughout the course on Udemy and on discord, and i am very thankful for that, because it helped me get through a period of time where i almost gave up. also, the instructors voice is easy to listen to and i enjoyed the process of making this game very much and i am very inspired to learn more
