Description

Welcome to my course, How to Improve Your Figure Drawing - Step by Step!

My name is Robert A. Marzullo and I am the author of the book "Learn to Draw Action Heroes."  I have worked in comics, storyboards, and 3D animation.  For each of these fields I had to be able to draw the human figure quickly and in a way that was convincing to my viewers.  In this course I share what I have learned over those 20 years.

This is a basic approach to figure drawing. This entire course on how to draw the human figure is 7 hours 45 minutes and growing.  I share techniques that I have used over the years to my illustrations and storyboards for television.  You will learn how to systematically break down the various parts of the body into simple shapes. This allows you to gain confidence on the subject and use a workflow that will keep you productive.  As I illustrate each area step by step you will follow along and learn from my studies.

In this course you will learn

  • Gesture Drawing

  • The Benefits of Timed Studies

  • Negative Space Drawing

  • Foreshortening

  • The Body in Perspective

  • Organic Lines Vs. Angular

  • Line of Action

  • How to Daw Hands

  • 3 Main Masses of the Body

Updated on 12-2-2022 -  I am including a section of drawing from life.  This will give you a better understanding on how to use the technique in this course in a practical way.

You get to share your work with the other students in this course and grow together.  Currently there are over 12,000 STUDENTS enrolled in this course.  That is a lot of like minded figure drawing artists, so be sure to share your work and your thoughts along the way!

Great Figure Drawings will separate your artwork form your peers.  It is a skill that is extremely sought after and admired.  Once you learn to confidently draw the human figure you will gain more recognition very quickly.  It takes time to master so be patient with yourself and dedicate the time needed each day.  I have designed this course to help you grow your skills easily and effectively.

This course will give you insight into how I create my artwork and create poses from my imagination.  I also share what techniques I use to improve my knowledge of the human form while studying.  Things like gesture drawings, timed studies of the pose, negative space drawing, foreshortening, perspective, organic versus angular lines, and much more.  You will also be given a copy of the art files as a downloadable PDF that I have created here so that you can work along and study from them.  By the end of this course you should be more confident in constructing your figure drawings from the  mind and have a better understanding of the human form.

You will also learn how to draw Gestures of the body using methods such as CSI. Making use of action lines and timed studies to help you improve your drawing abilities. I am also very receptive to my students. So if you have any suggestions or questions I am here to help!

Updated Content - I have also included 6 lessons on drawing various hands poses.  You will learn what to pay attention to when drawing the hands so that they are more believable and expressive.

Bonus lectures - How to Draw and Shade Muscular arms. In those lessons I go over 3 different arm poses with various rendering techniques.

The tips and tricks from this course will make the process of drawing complex body poses much easier to accomplish.  Good luck with your art and I can't wait to see your progress!

Please leave your honest review of this course so that myself and others will know what you think.

Thank you for considering my course,

Las explicaciones y técnicas son muy fácil de entender y de gran utilidad para todos los que deseamos aprender más acerca del mundo del cómic y del dibujo anatómico

I enjoyed the course. The only thing I really had issues with was the pacing, it seemed fast in parts. I've taken anatomy classes before so it wasn't a big issue for me. Would like to go more in depth with a class that covers how to shade the entire body.

I had stage 4 brain cancer and this course reversed the disease. Also right after I finished the course, I won the Mega Powerball three years in a row. My doctor also said for all practical purposes, I am immortal. All of this from this course. It is that good!

Video is full of facts, tips etc. But they are in audio version next to drawings witch are not in format to draw along for inexperienced - advanced artist can draw along. I found information very valuable for me!

I'm enjoying the lessons, its really helping me be more confident on drawing. I've always been shy an get scared to try something new. Thank you for slowly getting me to be more comfortable with new drawings.

I like his teaching style. His tips on making the image more 3D by adding cross sections was helpful. I’m hoping that at the end of the course there will be good instruction on putting all of the parts together.

Some of RAM's lessons in multiple courses are bogged down by a lack of focus and mistakes (which he often points out and lingers on). There is still some of that in this series but he turns it into part of the creative and drafting processes, encouraging you to learn from the mistakes and encouraging you to allow your style to dictate part of your art direction. Most valuably, he describes the small nuances of his own art style and how they differ from the commonly accepted rules. He acknowledges that neither one or the other is right or wrong and that his art style is not anatomically perfect, but that developing an efficient and satisfying work flow is as important as any other part of the art.

This is the first course, based on the first lesson I’ve followed 100% and haven’t felt bored by the 8head method or draw circles all lesson...this threw me into following the course from the get go. I’m excited to continue with this rather than feeling bored or put off. Excellent lesson to start off with.

This is a good course for learning the basic concepts of anatomy and figure drawing. Seeing the way the instructor broke down the body and the methods he used was very helpful. I had never taken a figure drawing course before this, so it had a very drastic effect on my art. I would recommend this for any amateur artist who hasn't studied anatomy yet and wants a good foundation to work with. I gave it 4/5 because despite being a very efficient course, I would have liked more single-focus lessons breaking down parts of the body, particularly the hands and feet in different angles and poses.

Vídeos muito bem explicativos e o conhecimento na área do instrutor é demais. A abordagem dos temas e o detalhamento com que ele ensina ajuda muito na hora de aplicar o que foi estudado. Estou muito feliz com o curso.

While I understand this isn't going to go into the more technical aspects such as anatomy, I think just going into drawing with vague "this is how I do it", isn't terribly helpful. Starting, explaining stuff like average measurements and hero proportions, explaining the differences between men/female,the importance of muscle and bone. etc... As a precursor would help greatly. Alot of this stuff I know through Andrew Loomis and Burne Hogarth, but it feels like when I started up this course, a huge chunk was missing and I was already in the middle of it.

Another great course from Robert Marzullo. Easy to follow and informative. For the reviewers that commented there wasn't enough anatomy covered, that is true, keep in mind this is a figure course, not anatomy. The content is well put together and if you take time to go through the course, you're sure to take away a few skills and tips that will make your figure drawing better. When finished, the real work of practice and repetition of the material are what will make this course worth every cent.

I have never attempted to draw figures before as I am a landscape or animal artist mainly so this is all new to me. The pace is good and I like the resources too.

After only the first lesson, Roberts course has helped me dramatically by making things simpler. I've had to review certain parts and you'll need to practice what you learn but this course will definitely speed up your progress to becoming a better illustrator. Great value here.
