"The speaker speaks simply. He focused on the essential elements of wine experience. He did not mention a litany of dos and don't. Destructive attitude. Do not embarrass yourself by taking this course. Wine knowledge is simple and is not reserved for rocket scientists. Jancis Robinson offers a lovely free intro on Udemy.

Talks about all the hype in the wine industry an then proceeds with his first two lectures which are nothing but hype. Some of what he says is true, however, as inexperienced as I am I can taste the difference between a very cheap bottle and a very expensive bottle. He is right in saying that you may not like the expensive bottle as much. I do not appreciate being told that I am a doddart or that I'm being made a fool of by the wine industry. That's my take after only 2 lectures and I'm hoping it gets better.

Background of the video are all the same and has nothing to do with wine. It even looks like he is presenting the news. I don't enjoy this course as the attitude of the presenter is quite snobbish and not interactive at all. There are no visual content whatsoever. Overall the course is so boring that I had to click check on all the presentation topics just to submit this review. Thank god this course is free.

Some of the actual information about wine was accurate and would be helpful to someone new to wine ( which is where the 1.5 stars comes from), however the vast majority of the lectures were spent bashing the wine industry and how all wine professionals are out to hose the consumer. As a wine professional I can speak to the fact that with enough PRACTICE, it is possible to identify wines blind, it has very little to do with having a gifted palette and as professionals our goal isn't to teach people how to enjoy wine but to help people to identify the characteristics they enjoy in the wine so they can accurately describe what they like to the next server, sommelier or wine retailer they encounter. And if your experience buying wine whether in a retail setting or a restaurant is being pressured into buying a bottle or glass for that matter for more than you are looking to spend find new places to purchase wine because any professional worth their salt is only looking to get you a wine that you will enjoy at a price you are comfortable with. It is much more gratifying seeing someone enjoy an inexpensive wine made in a region, from a grape by a producer they have never heard of than someone who orders a $300 bottle that by all accounts should be well made and taste good, those moments of discovery is what true wine professionals strive for. I do agree with the instructor pretentiousness in wine is obnoxious and ratings in magazines are BS and only valuable if you're having the person that rated it over for dinner, try and snag some of the last wine they gave 100 points, they obviously liked it.
