Why take this course?

In this course you will learn how to draw comic style art from the basic sketch to the final rendering. You will gain a better understanding on how to create illustrations with depth and dimension. By using line, shape, and forms we can construct anything. I will teach you how to simplify the things around you and then draw them with your own creative filter.

For this course you will need a pencil and paper or a drawing tablet. I will be using Traditional Comic Art tools such as 2h and HB lead. Bristol board smooth and various erasers. You will learn more about these tools as I am using them to create the work. You can still create and follow along with a regular pencil and paper.

This course is broken up into 5 main sections.

Section 1 - Understanding Line - Shape - Form

Section 2 - Drawing Comic Book Style Faces

Section 3 - Shading and Rendering

Section 4 - Drawing Poses for Comic Book Characters + Designing a Character

Section 5 - Drawing a Zombie - Textures and Imperfections

Section 6 - Drawing Wrinkles and Folds for Clothing

Section 7 - Q+A Section - Here I add new Video Content to answer Your Questions

You will work through a variety of practice activities that you can share in the Q+A Section of this course. Make sure to be specific with any questions or trouble areas you may have. I will do my best to offer any insight that I can.

This course is amazing, my teacher rob, is so calm and explains everything very well. Before this I was not a great comic artist but now I’m wayyyyyy better. He teaches me that not everything has to be perfect and to not be scared to experiment with different things. Over all definitely 5 stars

Coming from being barely able to draw, to producing some amazing comic style drawings that i thought was way beyond my skillset is inspiring. However I wish there was more on the shape of objects, especially around the face, as the examples are limited.

Great first drawing course for me! I liked the way Robert showed us the different stages of rendering and how it's okay to mess up - just erase and try again. He showed us the light erasing technique that I experimented with non-repro blue to start then added black lines to finish the rendering. Thanks for getting me going, Robert!

The instructor provides some great advice and tips on how to enhance comic style artwork. He makes you think outside of the box and to try new things with your art to see what works for you. This is a good course for a beginner who wants to do comic art or as a refresher for someone like me who is getting back into doing comic style art.
