What you will learn

Learn how to color realistic metal effects with regular pencils. No gold and silver pens and inks, just colored pencils.

Why take this course?

In this course you will be working with line art provided by the artist, and learn her personal technique of coloring realistic metals with pencils. There's no need for fancy gold pens, markers, or paints. The secret to creating unbelievable metallic effects is in using the tools you already have. Join this amazing adventure, and take your coloring skill to the next level.

Wether you're a beginner, an intermediate, or an expert level colorist, you will come out of this course with skills that will make your coloring stand out from the rest of the community. The lessons are structured systematically, starting with very basic explanations of how to pick the right pencils and why certain effects work on paper, taking you through a study of how metals appear to the human eye and why, with many practice pages along the way, and guiding you to amazing shiny metals effects (silver, copper and gold) that appear very difficult to master.
If you follow the lessons in order and at your own pace, however, you will have no problem creating amazing metallic effects with just colored pencils on paper.

Lisa is a life-long professional artist with years of experience teaching. She has your back, and is always available to answer questions or offer a critique of your work in progress. Don't forget that you can always message your instructor.

I've wanted to understand how to color metals for a long time. Even with just the first example of silver and the application of the first two colors/pigments, Lisa has condensed the ideas and reduced the complexity into more basic forms. Lisa's reminded us that it's more important to let the mood and how the color feels to you drive the color selection. She's also highlighted that contrast is key and mentioned that highly polished metals will be very light in value, and that darker values will often be from reflected objects or if the metal hasn't been polished or is tarnished.

This was a fantastic course and I learned a lot about how to color different types of metals. I love that Lisa gave resources to download to practice each type with her image. She explains everything well and clearly. Great course!

Excellent course. Added bonus of teaching me color selection in addition to the pencil techniques. Beginning to understand how shifting the color combo alters the final effect. Excited to finish the 2nd half of the course.

With any video learning I watch *all* of it while taking notes, listening, and getting to know the instructor. I very much enjoyed the style of teaching - direct, clear and friendly. Now I know what's expected I can begin from the beginning and take my time. I'm looking forward to it, and would recommend the class to anyone wanting to understand metals. The gold cat is a wonderful finale. I hope I can, when I get there, present something to be proud of. Thank you so much. I'll be back for more.

Lisa is an instructor that gets right to the coloring without repeating concepts, I'm so glad the sessions are short.

It was a revelation to see what wonderful metallic effects Lisa achieved with so relatively few colours. I feel so much more confident, that with the appropriate reference sources, I'll be able to make much more convincing metallic effects in future!

Très bons cours. Ils seraient encore mieux avec les mêmes crayons black Windows que devoir changer de marque (prismacolors)

This class is wonderful! The instructor focuses on technique, the why and the how, so that all the knowledge acquired can easily be transferred to other projects. The projects start off easy and progressively get more intricate, it's a perfect learning style for me.
