Excellent introduction and overview. The Good: If you have never played an instrument before and you don't know how to read music, this course will introduce you to the harp without having to read music. She covers the basic techniques of playing the harp: how to play the strings, hand positioning, connecting notes, etc. It is a very good introduction and she is explains each point clearly. The Bad: 1. The pieces are presented too fast. But after the lesson, you can practice at your own speed. 2. If you DO know how to read music (and many beginners on the harp can because they play other instruments), then the way the music is written is very frustrating and hard to read. I would like to suggests to the teacher that she add an additional page on each PowerPoint presentation with the music written with normal musical notation and bracketing. For people who can read music, that would be so much clearer! (As I wrote above, if you don't know how to read music, you don't need to!)

Yanjin Luo did a great job! She paces things so that it will take about a month to get it down if you have no prior music experience. But I was so excited and doing well enough that I completed the entire course in 2 days. Keep in mind that though it is only 2 hours of videos, it will require much more time than that because you will need to practice certain sections over and over. I am very happy that I genuinely finished a Udemy course and also learned a new skill. Of course, this is just the beginning and I will now be looking for more sheet music & online training to go to the next level. The harp is used in music therapy for a reason. I feel close to my new harp and I even brought it to work with me! One of my co-workers noticed my harp and became interested in it. I showed him how to tune it and he was plucking away. It is also very inexpensive as you can get a Aklot baby harp on Amazon.com for around $120. Great instrument for beginners! Yanjuo makes sure to teach both harp finger technique and the notes for all 15 strings. She explains everything as she does it and actually teaches you how to play. She plays songs slowly and then picks up speed. Virtually all of the tunes are recognizable children's classics, so it makes it easier to sound out the melody and listen for your mistakes. She also writes out notation (E, F, G, 1st Finger, 3rd Finger, etc) to follow along and play with her, so you can "read music" without actually knowing how to read music. Yanjuo also has a kind, gentle and humble demeanor. She is not here to show off. She is here to help. Being able to play a musical instrument is a gift that will keep you happily occupied and be a steady companion for your entire life. I give this course my highest recommendation possible! A+
