I purchased this course some time ago during a sale, and finally decided to watch it. It was pretty clear from the beginning that the instructor's drawing abilities are not the best, and he kept making excuses for them. Whatever, i'm a beginning drawer so it was fine to learn from someone who made the material seem more professional. However, it was also quickly apparent that this instructor has some odd views on gender as well. The course is peppered with statements where like "Girls can have short hair if they want to" "Girls look prettier with long eyelashes." But he even at one point referred to a feature of the woman he was drawing as being feminine because it was "More passive." When he got into drawing bodies, however, it got a lot worse. He went into a bizarre debate against an imaginary opponent arguing that women's shoulders are more narrow and facts are facts and he happens to find those facts beautiful and you can argue if you want blahblahblah. He continued to explain that he was giving his character large breasts, talking about how higher hips and being able to see rib cage makes "girls" sexier, and on and on. All while drawing an alien-like female figure with big boobs, toothpick arms, ridiculous hips and massive legs that looked exactly like the ones he'd drawn on the male character. I tapped out of this lesson at this point. As a woman I don't want to learn drawing from an man who has clearly never seen or spoken to a woman.

It's off to a good start. I've been drawing for a long time. I've illustrated my own poetry book, Pet Poetry, which I self-published on Amazon. I'm hoping this class will give me some tip on how to improve upon the skills I already have and help me to become a more professional illustrator and expand on more career opportunities. After completing the course, I feel that I already knew most of what was covered in the videos, so for me as an experienced artist, I see it as a refresher course. I certainly would recommend it for beginners.

I am trying to illustrate my own books. I can draw the old fashioned way, but need to learn the digital method. I think this will work. Thank you.

It seems very interesting and covers a great ammount of topics. I love it that you can use traditional or digital tools. Can't wait to see what can I do. I will use traditional means for now.

great teaching but kept emphasizing how everything COULD be done with pencil and pen, lots of shadowing techniques for example were lost on me because its completely different using pencil and paper instead of digital; would have enjoyed watching a clip of sketching these things with actual pencil

Gives good step-by-step instructions with clear examples and shows how what we are working on can be applied to sketches, drawings, and illustrations... Yet sometimes, I can't really tell if I should be drawing along or we're just watching for examples. But this is great and it's encouraging me to get back into realistic drawings!

I like watching him draw, and he is very pleasant to listen to. It would be nice if the thing was a little more tightened up, there is a lot of footage that drags on a bit, especially in the beginning. Over all quite inspiring!

I'm learning so much and because I'm beginner, I could never get the hang of it by learning from others. I'm loving this course :)

I like the introduction very much, especially artist being so open and honest.Yes we do live in 21 century although everybody forgets that traditional Technic of doing art is still very precious and Brandon is aware of it.Also in this introduction I have learn a lot about illustration itself. So I am waiting for the course now to see the rest... Marija Bogdan UK

I enjoyed this course and have a mostly positive impression of it. The instruction is often unpolished and unedited, which by the instructor's own admission is his preference. He seems to like to remain extemporaneous in his presentation even when it makes him appear unsure at times. I personally have no problem with this as it portrays the imperfect and ever fluctuating aspect of sketching. It also makes the instructor come across as human and not overly rehearsed. The bottom line is that there is a ton of good information here for aspiring artists. Good Stuff!

I liked the modules about perspective, the steps to move from drawing to illustration and the fast-motion parts. I had already taken a course on sketching and figure drawing so those parts were not interesting for me and they were slow. Compared to the course headline those parts seamed a bit out of topic. I would either change the headline or cut out the sketching part. The course could use a more stable video-recording.. there was quite a lot of unnecessary moving of the background etc and for me a bit too much inner speech spoken out. I really liked the lessons where grid was being used. That helped me to develop further. It was clear that the course is being updated as some of the videos already had a better voice quality, that was nice! In this kind of course I would like the last module to be longer.

I like this course a lot. The instructor presents his information clearly makes good use of his media. This tutorial is helping me understand how I can use GIMP to achieve my drawing goals.

This course teaches a lot of the fundamentals. I enjoyed Brendon's reality about illustration because his initial sketches are not perfect, but his final drawing is pretty great, which shows us that you do not have to be a person who does everything right the first time, but if you apply the right techniques, you can achieve successful results and become a successful illustrator like him. He does tend to ramble, repeat himself, and introduce himself with every video, but you can definitely disregard those things because there is a lot of essential meat in this course for those who would like to take their drawings to illustration. It is worth it.

Hey Brandon you course was a good overview for someone wanting to illustrate, rather than just draw. Your course though simple, does show the essentials of illustration. Its Well paced but could do with a few more examples to round out the course.
