Why take this course?

In this course I will show you fast and easy way to learn a lot. After finishing it you will only need a couple more hours of exercise and you'll be able to draw anything you want. Even if you're an absolute beginner, your drawings will look like you have many years of an experience. After that we will go even further and learn some basics of animation in Adobe After Effects. With these skills your knowledge will be much more valuable. You will find a job easily, enjoy in your creativity and be inspired to learn more and be worthy even more.

Part 1: Learn to Draw a Character ( Adobe Illustrator )

In the first part of the course I will teach you how to draw a character using the easiest and fastest possible way in Adobe Illustrator. But the best part is that through this process you’ll learn to use tools which will help you to draw anything you want. Character design will be only a great start. This type of drawing doesn’t even require experience. You’ll use three geometric forms to draw everything. With this technique your drawing can’t look bad. You will be very satisfied at the end.

Part 2: Preparing Character for Animation - Layers inAdobe Illustrator

It’s a beautiful feeling when you give your character part of your own personality, but if you breathe life into it and make it alive, that’s a real thing.  First of all, character need some preparation.  In this part of the course you’ll go through that process. It’s an easy process that will help you enormously later.

Part 3: Character Rigging with Bones ( Adobe After Effects and free plugin for After Effects - DUIK )

This is the most interesting part of the tutorial. It’s beautiful to look at your creation starting to move and become alive. In this part, I’ll teach you how to put together every part of the character, implant skeleton into it and prepare it for the first step. After that your character will be ready for action. When you get familiar with the process and see how easy it is, your creativity will explode. You will become aware that you have just mastered the skills with which you’ll be able to do many things. I will give you the key to the treasure.

Part 4: Walking Cycle ( Adobe After Effects )

In the last part of the tutorial on the example of the walking cycle I will show you how to make a real animation. This type of the animation is considered complicated, but my passion will make it simple and easy. Hence, I created instructions you need to follow in order to create a perfect animation in only a few minutes. There is no easier way. You can move keypoints later and give your personal touch to the character motion.

Course includes:

  • Character vector file ( Adobe Illustrator )
  • Free plugin Duik
  • Drawn instruction which you’ll use to make walking cycle

Useless course as plug in is completely different nowadays. Udemy should not offer courses that cannot be completed any longer.

Overall if you stop and rewind a whole lot you can glean some good information and techniques from this course, The guy is knowledgeable but talks too fast and makes a lot of assumptions. It's a little misleading in that the prerequisites are in fact Adobe Illustrator, Adobe After Effects, and the Duik Plugin but is seems to be geared toward beginners when you definitely need to know what you are doing on several levels to keep up. the Duik plugin installation alone is a bear and he gives no direction let alone the version he uses is different so you have to use the online manual to keep up. It took me 20 min just to add the controller because he has a button that says "controller" but the updated version is a symbol with no I.D. It difficult to say he teaches you how to make an "easy" flat character. he talks you through the shapes but give know understand of shadows, gender identification, position change ( other than a speed run he does at the end) that gives no info. Bottom line you have to have a decent amount of understanding of these programs and plugin before you start this, that needs to be made very clear in the description. Otherwise it's not bad.

Fast and precise. If you are a beginner you might want to watch each video a few times but it's very good.

Great course, short and focused, straight to the point! The After Effect part was a bit fast for me, because i don't have much experience with the program, but that's whats good about video, i can watch it over and over until i'll get it. The instructions were very easy to understand- so i'll be fine! thank you.

I like the instructor's accent. I like the brisk pace/tempo of the tutorial. The instructor demonstrates a lot of creativity and skill using fundamental shapes and techniques in Ai to quickly make an appealing animated character.

The more I retry this course, the worse I feel about it. My animation still hasn't come out right. He just left too much stuff unclear. His personality was great. However, he moved too fast through things that needed more explanation. For instance, how did he play back the animation during the walking cycle. I guess he just assumed we would already know. I had to YouTube so much extra stuff just to keep up that it became a hindrance. For instance, I didn't know you had to go to "Window" and select pathfinder to use the pathfinder tool. He just breezed through it without ANY explanation. Even using the round rectangle tool to create rounded corners was difficult--my tool doesn't work like his and I'm not sure how to get it to. The instructions he gave for the "stroke" tool must have been outdated because I couldn't find a way to follow that step. He flew through the layers portion. Most of all, he flew through the actual animation. He didn't even show how he got the animation to play back! Couldn't keep up. Overall, it could have been a great course--fun, creative, engaging. Slow down though. Please!

Just a simple tutorials with simple design and animation. This tutorial was "SIMPLY GREAT" because it was so simple to follow and imitate. I do own a lot of tutorials from Udemy, and this is one I was able to watch from start to finish in just two sitting, practicing as I followed along.

The techniques are very interesting, and once I was able to follow along things went great. He goes a bit too fast without explaining what he's doing a good amount of the time, and in the beginning of the course I had to guess at what his opening canvas size was (and I think I got it wrong). All that said, I'm eager to see what he has to teach me and look forward to animating this character!

Goes a little fast. Had to rewatch to learn how to group and customize shapes. But I really like the character creation using vectors! Watching this course is like watching magic.

Mark Rise has what it takes to get and hold attention. His working method is really awesome... and I love love love that accent of his. Initially the constant music bugged me but eventually after some weeks of having a break, I came back and finished it and I am glad I did. He was consice and straight to the point. This is a lecture some others would stretch into long hours, but Mark covered everything within a short time, yet very comprehensive. Thank you for this.
