Why take this course?

Document your thoughts like a genius.

So why the title?

Well, take a close look at people we regard as ‘genius’ characters over the centuries. The way they documented their thoughts, took notes, drew and sketched for inspiration and the format they chose when putting pen to paper had a remarkable similarity to what we now call ‘mind mapping’. Doodles, sketches, linking-lines, pictures, images, groupings, relationships; big picture and fine detail. There was less color than the classic modern day mind map, but crayons and felt tip pens were hard to come by, so the humble quill had to sufice.

This course is about mind mapping - a slightly more formalised and researched form of note taking, that has huge benefits over traditional note taking or thought documenting techniques.

Mind mapping is being adopted in schools and universities by thousands of students who find this method of note-taking to be amazingly easy and beneficial. These same students take mind mapping into their professional lives to organize, memorize, manage and communicate.

Mind mapping is extremely fast , very intuitive and amazingly easy to re-visit and understand.

Mind mapping can be used by anyone who, at any point in their daily lives, needs to make a plan, take clear and readable notes, or explain concepts or projects to others - everyone including C level executives, management consultants, project managers, engineers, writers, poets, students, designers, teachers, stay at home moms or dads.

The uses for mind maps are only limited by imagination itself. Imagine documenting one of Shakespeare's plays - the plots, sub plots, characters, major and minor - the relationship between the characters within the play and even with characters in other of the bards plays. Maybe the relevance of the storyline to a particular time in the life of Shakespeare. To document all this information in a word document for example, might end up as a book in itself. Imagine having all this information on a single sheet, radiating out from a single central topic (i.e the name of the play) - all the information at a glance - imagine using this as the tool to explain every facet of the play to a class of students for example.

Mind maps have awesome power to map, distill and convey information, and explain relationships and ideas in a way the written word cannot. We are visual beings, and a good mindmap gives us an instant picture which is far easier to understand and remember than any other method.

This course covers the theory and principles of mind mapping and then gives you an in depth look into the fantastic market leading mind mapping software XMind.

The course consists of five hours of video tutorial and supplementary materials and the occasional quiz. Depending on your time commitments, the course can be completed anywhere between a day and a few weeks.

I'm training to a old version of XMind. Many tools are not matching up and his Alt-Enter isn't doing anything on my map

Buen curso de introduccion a mapas mentales y uso de Xmind. Si bien es una versión es util para una visión general de las cosas que permite hacer el software

I only wish that I have attended this course much earlier. This course helps in organizing thoughts. We always learn new courses, new tasks, and fulfill requirements, and sometimes when we need a clear summary of what we have learned in the past- we got lost because we either don't have exact summary OR have too much detailed writing. This course helps in organizing all learning and move to the next topic quickly - correlate OLD and new learning - I think that This course should be mandatory for all students.

Good descriptions of Xmind and how to use. I enjoyed the course and I think it will be beneficial to me when planning or mind-mapping books.

Slightly disappointed in the rather old version this course is based upon, yet it's not really a dealbreaker as to grasping the concepts and usability of xmind.

I am a current user of xMind but chose to teach myself the software. This is an enjoyable course and I should be much faster now that I know all the tips and tricks.

Its very well presented, not too many distractions for my old eyes and delivered at a speed which those of a certain age will appreciate, i certainly will stick with it, many thanks. Well I stuck with it,got a wee bit lost on some sections, when the terminology for topic changes to nodes and brothers! But soo caught up and thoroughly enjoyed the course, well done Colin

The course is generally excellent, but does waste some time on an unnessary and misleading reductionist explanation of mind as brain. Fortunately, this misadventure does not affect the practical instruction.

A complete waste of money I paid this guy $40 USD to tell me nothing, that is one of the biggest Rip Off courses I have ever done on UDEMY, this course was worth about $5 One of my biggest beefs about this guy was his constant use of the word Obviously, what a stupid word to use on a course, this guy is not an expert user by any stretch, he fumbled his way through and did not clearly state or demonstrate the incredible power of Xmind, if I could get my money back I would, this guy basically stole $40 USD off me

This is a terrific course on mind mapping, specific to XMIND software. The first third covers the theory and application of the mind mapping technique. The next two thirds covers how to use XMIND. For me, however, the section on XMIND really helped me understand the various features of mind maps and how to enhance mind maps for clarity.

I really enjoyed doing this course. It is very well presented - full of interesting information, clear demonstrations and an easy to follow progression of ideas, all in an accessible style. I'm sure the presenter used "Mind Mapping" to create the course, because it is so well laid out, concise, logical and educational. A great example of the techniques that he teaches. I have used mind maps a little before, but always on paper. The ability to use this technique in an electronic format is far more versatile, and the presenter leads you through all the necessary steps to understanding and actually using the software in a very accessible manner, even if you are not a computer wizard. I created my first mind-map within a few hours and I’m really enjoying the process of refining the details. I have no hesitation in recommending this course to everyone - whatever your needs, goals or interests - Mind Mapping itself is a brilliant way to organise your thinking, to bring new insight and clarity, and this course is a great introduction.

I'm 42% though the course. The instructor is a VERY effective communicator. Because this is my first mind mapping course and I was looking for more in depth explanation of mind mapping. This topic was explained however I wanted a 7-course meal and I only got the appetizer and the soup. I was left unsatisfied. The vast majority of the course is devoted to teaching how to use the mind mapping software "XMind". In the course you download the free XMind version and Colin does an EXPERT job of showing you the XMind software. The instructor is fantastic I just wanted more meat about mind mapping.

More than ever, creative thoughts, ideas and projects need to be easily documented and impactfully explained: XMind seems to be the solution! I find this course very helpful to understand the philosophy of mind mapping and to rapidly use a new software that is so disruptive compared to any other existing tools. The structure of the course is very clear and presented with many simple examples to practice straight away. I can see plenty of opportunities to use this software to organise thoughts for different projects and to enhance the presentation and explanation of ideas to others. A great help since never seen anything like it!
