Cultural Competence and Diversity in the Workplace

This course on cultural humility and diversity training covers a wide range of topics to help students become more culturally competent. This course teaches students how to define cultural and cultural competence. Students will learn about what is expected of them to become more knowledgeable of cultural norms and how to create a safe space for people with different cultural backgrounds. Students must be respectful of a wide range of cultural behaviors and effectively communicate with people of various backgrounds. Students will learn about the culture and how that affects fundamental behaviors. This course includes practical applications so that students can see how these concepts can be experienced in the real world. Students will learn about cultural norms and how cultural backgrounds manifest themselves in any setting. Students will learn key terms commonly used amongst the LGBTQ+ community and why it matters. This course covers how to un-handicap your language so that you can create a safe space for important minority groups. Students will learn what it takes to practice cross-cultural communication and the importance of utilizing that skill in any setting. Finally, students should be left with foundational knowledge that is enough to get them started on their journey on practicing cultural humility.
