Using CSS Floats you can quickly create web pages with multiple columns. This course will show you how to apply CSS floats and how to clear floats to rapidly build out web pages with multiple columns of content areas.

Floats are powerful and often something that new web designers have questions about. I built this course specifically to help students learn about using floats, what to watch out for and how to apply CSS properties to quickly create a website layout.

The float CSS property specifies how an HTML element should be placed either along the left or right side of its container. The surrounding elements can then wrap around it. Floats are commonly used within images to get images inline with the surrounding text as well as to create page columns. Floats allow you to control the output either to the left or right of the surrounding content.

This course will show you how to use floats in CSS, explore common mistakes and address common questions when it comes to floats.

Floats allow the content to remain within the normal flow of the page content contrary to when you use positioning.

The course content was very good and helpful. However, the lesson structure and flow between lessons was not great. I don't like that source code is at the end of the lessons because if you don't know that to start off, it's difficult to follow along. The instructor has a habit of saying things like "let's get rid of this" and scrolling up, moving screens, showing the effects, but never stating what 'this' is- was it the sidemenu? block1? I had to stop the video and advance second by second at times to find out what was changed. Sometimes a lesson would end and the next would start with a different screen display from what we just coded- how did he change the site to get that look? It's not addressed. This course was only an hour but it gave me at least 1.5 hours worth of headache trying to determine what was going on. I did learn good information though.

I really enjoyed this course. I have been doing some aspects of web development for about two years now and the subject of floats and clear fix was always a shady area. Laurence does a great job making them easy to understand and does so in a quick manner so I can go back to my projects. Would 100% rec commend this course to developers starting out or experienced ones looking to fully understand floats.

I enjoyed this course because it helped me solve a very real problem for me: how to quickly and simply create web pages in two or three columns
