Description

Learn CSS to tweak your website with this CSS for Beginners course.

Web pages are built with HTML, but styled with CSS. As with any other coding language, CSS has a learning curve that puts off many beginners. This CSS for beginners course aims to change all that and make learning CSS fun. As you work through the tutorials, you can try out the examples, or try your own CSS and see the live preview of your code immediately to check if you got it right.

CSS for Beginners starts with an introduction to CSS where you can get your feet wet by creating your own uniquely styled Google's homepage.

After learning a few key phrases you'll move on to look at the three ways you can implement CSS into your web pages.

You'll look at color, including web safe colors, and the different ways you can add color to your web pages.

We'll look at how you can style any HTML element, from headers to lists using base selectors, before looking at the design power offered by Classes and IDs to really put your CSS designs into overdrive.

With a great working knowledge of the main concepts in CSS, we'll cover the Box Model of CSS, which is a great source of confusion for many CSS beginners. Using a simple diagram as reference, you can roll up your sleeves and explore the Box Model with a simple CSS coding session. Not only can you follow along in real-time using the same free tool that I do, you can also experiment and have fun as you learn.

If you are a beginner to CSS or struggled with the learning curve in the past, then CSS for Beginners is the course for you, and offers you a fun way to learn CSS, using free tools.

I signed up for this course some time ago, anticipating that I would "get around to it." I came across a need to adjust the font size and padding/margin in a calendar plugin which gave me good reason to do the course. I found the course to be very helpful. I think some updating is needed. Liveweave appears to be slightly different. I think that is likely to css changing over time. Also, the color picker in the course is $15, not free. I found another, free, that met the need. Aside the the liveweave and color picker issues, I had no problems understanding and following along. I highly recommend the course.

Probably need to run through this course a couple of times at least but gradually sinking in. Sections 4 & 5 particularly illuminating.

I taught myself a lot about css so the class is starting out slow for me. The class is filling in gaps in my knowledge - so that is good.

I have actually written some fairly complex CSS in the past for my website www.philmalpas.com so this was just a refresher course for me. I suspect the course was written some time ago and it is no surprise therefore that the link to the CSE HTML Validator is no longer current. The course is fine as it goes but probably wasn't quite what I needed - it could do with an update perhaps.

Lecture 26 Video Fails to complete. Although an Intro Level Course, I was disappointed in the depth of content. I feel there are many more basic concepts within HTML/CSS that could have been introduced.

Best Course on CSS I have taken so far. Speed is perfect, concepts are clear, and understanding is on point. Great class!

I think the course was laid out and explained well; the resources provided, although limited, were a nice touch.

I had learned CSS a few years ago. I wanted to get a refresher in CSS and maybe learn a few things that I may have missed. All of Andy's courses that I've taken (3 or 4) have been excellent, and this one was no exception. I look forward to the next series of CSS lectures. Thanks Andy!

Found this course helpful and very easy to follow a great introduction to CSS for beginners. I had taken another course that I found to hard to follow and understand so I'm glad to have found this course and would highly recommended it to any beginners. Alan Kelly

This course really over-delivered and gave me a solid foundation in CSS that I can continue to build on. The instructor, Andy Williams, was extremely knowledgeable and well-prepared. The videos and other materials were very high quality and easy to follow. I was immediately able to implement many of the things I learned in the course on a new website I was building for a client. Excellent course!

I found this course simple to follow. It does not leave anything mentioned as unexplained. I recommend it to anyone just wanting to get an uncomplicated overview of what CSS is all about.

Andy Williams has managed to turn dry CSS coding on its head. This course was obviously well thought through, and Andy's clear, methodical delivery is easy to follow. His explanations are thorough and without fluff, empowering even the novice to transform ordinary websites into attractive magnets! Thank you, and I look forward to your other courses.

Dr. Andy does a good job of explaining concepts and presenting examples. Both in this course and in others I have taken from him. This was a review course for me as I have written CSS before but not for some time. I liked the basic start which explained the syntax of how to setup any CSS basic statement. The course then progresses logically thru the color manipulation, fonts + font families+styles. He presents the difference between classes and ID CSS elements and how they are written and used. Explains the difference between inline CSS applied to a single page element on the page, internal css where the style sheet resides in the header of the document and how to make an external style sheet and pull it into the document with an href url. The explanation of the box model was helpful to me as that was not being used too much when I was writing CSS. Overall a good course for learning beginning CSS. The biggest improvements would be to even out the volume between videos so it was more constant instead of being ok in one video and too soft in the next. I noticed some of videos appeared blurry to me but that was because I had the HD disabled. Once I found the button to turn HD on, the blurry videos went away. The audio was not bad enough to take a way a star so I upgraded my review from 4 to 5 stars.

Found this course to be easy to follow as well as instructive and taught in an relaxed manner. I'm not completely new to CSS but this straightforward course gave me some new insights into areas I thought I already knew. For someone looking for a primer in CSS this course fits the bill perfectly.

I am very pleased with this course. It is detailed; leaving no stone unturned so-to-speak, fast enough that it's not boring and slow enough to capture all that he is teaching. I like his method of teaching; he really wants us to learn it and his enthusiasm is great. I found the course thorough and all my expectations were met and more. I would recommend this to anyone wanting to learn CSS. Quality of videos: excellent.
