Why take this course?

If you work for a company or operate your own business or startup, then you know your daily work environment will involve making critical decisions about anything and everything. It’s no easy task, and you don’t want your decisions based on the popular response, colleague pressure, emotion, or your gut. Instead, you want to know how to apply critical thinking to each and every decision you make to ensure better results.

This course provides a deep dive into the concept of critical thinking, its benefits, and the challenges involved in being good at critical thinking. I’ll walk you through the critical thinking process of today’s successful leaders and share my own experiences. In this course, you will:

  • Explore the concept of critical thinking, its value, and how it works.

  • Discover what goes into critical thinking to create effective critical thinking.

  • Determine what stands in the way of critical thinking and how to tear down these barriers.

  • Master critical thinking by understanding its components and processes.

  • Practice what you learn through some fun, hands-on activities, including workshops and an online escape room game.

  • Develop your personal critical thinking action plan.

Here is a little bit about me and my life that most people don’t know. I’m just your average guy that grew up in Salt Lake City, Utah, and I have been an entrepreneur my whole life. My current companies include Calendar and Due. I am involved in numerous other ventures as an investor and advisor. I have spoken all over the world and coached countless entrepreneurs on how to grow their small ideas to billion-dollar businesses. Many of these same entrepreneurs have gone on to sell their companies to Google, eBay, Microsoft, and Adobe. As an online influencer, Entrepreneur Magazine recognized me as one of the top 50 most influential marketers in the World. I was number 2 on the list.

I appreciated the topics being presented first with education and followed with practical experience examples.

Fantastic content and a great course idea but hard to follow. The presenter was engaging but seemed to meander a bit, making it difficult to determine the relevant information. I'm still not certain whether he stayed at the start-up or sold it? Also, the section quizzes were very easy (100% every time) while the CPE assessment was much more difficult. I took the assessment 3 times; received 80%, 90%, then finally rewatched the whole course to get 100% -- it's not about the score here, but whether I absorbed the information I was putting in my time and effort to learn. I like to get my money's worth. Again, good course, could just be a bit clearer. Best wishes!

Yes, my whole day is filled with these kind of decisions -- maybe not so important to the whole, but to the people I support.

It was a good match for me although I did have trouble taking quiz to get my certificate. I will continue to try so I can have this course completed. Thank you.

The final test does not provide answers to its questions which are objectively superior. There is to much room for personal interpretation or inference.

Section 1: Welcome to Critical Thinking Lecture 1: Introduction - video is not dynamic - acoustics are poor Lecture 2: Making Business Decisions - "In the book, "The Greatest Business Decisions of All Time", Verne Harnish describes some of the greatest business decisions of all time." This line lost the course all credibility - Nothing of value in this segment. Personal anecdotes are irrelevant and criticizing corporations for passing up startups in the rags stage of their "rags to riches" story is not a judgement of their critical thinking abilities. Experience, not hindsight, is a factor in critical thinking. Lecture 3: Exercise: Reflect on a Business Decision - This exercise plays off of personal recognition which has a bias towards exceptionalism. This is not a fair tack to take when judging strategy. - Don't beat yourself up for past mistakes if your logic was sound - I liked the critique of hindsight here, though it is at odds with the lesson of Lecture 2. Section 2: Critical Thinking Lecture 1: What is Critical Thinking? - What is true? What is reasonable? - a disciplined intellectual process where an individual actively applies, analyzes, synthesizes, and evaluates information, using observance, experience, reflection, reasoning, and communication. - Consists of 2 parts: Set of info & processing skills, Using those skills to process the information - Mention of several hypotheticals without digging deeper does not provide value Lecture 2: Critical Thinking in Decision-Making - Good escape room graphic - Instructor is losing me at this point. I'm tired of critiquing because the video is not proving to be worth my time It's not engaging, it's not informative, it's fluff and I'm asleep.

The qualified assessment should have answers so that we can check what was incorrect. I thought the rest of the course did provide some helpful ways to practice critical thinking.

Too long Course, Very difficult Test at the end, a lot of repetition. I cannot get the advantages of this lecture, it is soooo boring. It is for academic students not for the employee who wants to develop his skills in a casual way.

This is an excellent match for me. I am on the verge of being selected for my first managerial job and I have a lot to learn. I know the job well and I consider myself a good leader in many aspects of my life. It is very refreshing to learn from this segment that I am indeed a critical thinker. I have always considered myself as such but I never really did exercises to see it for a fact.

Since I often turn to my manager or colleagues when I need to take a decision and get the question back - why do you ask me? You know better than I - I need to get some tools to be able to take the decisions myself and feel confident in the decisions I take.
