There is very little explanations of why we are doing things and how we are doing things. Transcribed Section. "Then we are going to detach this whole part" Looks at the reference drawing in silence. "Yes so we are detaching this whole part by pressing detach". A new object is created in the side bar, but then he does something and the new object disappears. " Um hmm. Lets select loop and extrude inside". The edge loop is still connected to the other part, did he undo the detach?!. "Ok, and lets press extrude inside again, and we'll take here 0 to 0 here and detach. Press delete button to delete inner edges". WTF why did we extrude again and put everything to zero and delete the inner edges. "So right now we have basically have detached this object". Ok, how did we do that and why?! The entire section I am on is like this, it is very frustrating. I feel like I having done 3ds Max for two weeks could create a better video. There needs to be explanations of why we are doing things and if something is undone, it needs to be explained why it is being undone instead of just pressing Ctrl + Z and then continue to do it in some other fashion. Things need to be explained better so anyone trying to learn from this video can apply the techniques on there own projects in the future. When someone learns on there own there is a lot of trial and error. You learn from your mistakes. When you learn from a teacher the teacher should be guiding you and helping you understand the mistakes that can happen so you avoid them. A teacher should explain why you do the things you do. In a tutorial video there should be guidance, one should be taught steps that they can follow for an outcome. You should be taught reasoning and at the end of a course have skills you can apply to future projects. This course is a solid two stars, maybe 2 1/2 stars. It is very frustrating, you do gain a little bit of knowledge but not much. You can really tell when someone is just making a video for reasons unknown vs. when someone is making a video trying to pass on knowledge to truly help someone get good at something. Nothing against the person making the video but they aren't a good teacher. They are very skilled though. I think the robot is really well done. The lesson should have been thought about and a script written with a step by step guide to guide the person making the video. Having said all that, do I regret buying this on sale. No I don't, I am trying to learn 3ds Max and spend all of my free time doing it. Unfortunately almost every tutorial has been frustrating and I've had to watch alot of crap to get that little bit of knowledge hidden within.

I like it overall. This is not a class but more like a demostration how he did it, if you are a beginner maybe you wont understand why he did this or that because there is no explanation, mainly at unwrapping the character. In the end you built a nice robot texturized and that is cool for me. An nice and fast tutorial just to buy another more complex tutorial one.
