Description

Course Objectives

To take a static HTML website that fails Google's "mobile-friendly" test and convert it into a slick, responsive, mobile-friendly website that looks great on desktop, tablet and mobile phone browsers. You can watch the entire conversion process "over-my-shoulder" and see how this type of conversion is possible without losing current rankings, and with zero site downtime.

Who is the course for?

This course is for anyone that needs to convert an HTML site into a mobile-friendly Wordpress site to be compliant with Google's upcoming algorithm change.

The course does not require any previous knowledge of HTML or Wordpress.

Why is this important?

In April 2015, Google is going to introduce an algorithm update that effectively penalizes sites that do not display well in mobile browsers (that's mobile phones and tablets). Older HTML sites are not typically optimized for mobile devices, so they will suffer in the search engines.

If you have old HTML sites that you want to keep, now is the time to think about converting them to Wordpress. This course can take you step-by-step through the entire process.

So why Wordpress?

Wordpress offers a platform that is easy to set up and offers responsive site themes out of the box. If you convert your site to Wordpress, you'll not only have a great looking website, you'll also have one that is responsive! That means the site looks great in any browser on any device - mobile phone, tablet or desktop computer. The beauty of Wordpress is that it takes care of the technical stuff, you just concentrate on your site content. Now you don't need to be a designer.

If you are concerned about the upcoming changes to Google's algorithm and how they will affect your HTML site, then this course is for you. Within a few hours, you'll have a beautiful, responsive site that Google will reward.

What's in this course?

  1. This course starts off with an introduction, telling you why it is important to make the switch to a responsive theme.
  2. I'll then introduce you to one of my old HTML websites, built a long time ago when SEO had very different rules. During this upgrade to Wordpress, I'll also be cleaning it up and bringing the SEO up to date.
  3. You'll then see an easy way of collecting a list of URLs on the site, and using a spreadsheet, organize them to help the conversion go smoothly.
  4. After installing Wordpress, you'll learn how to make it invisible to the search engines until you are ready to switch it on.
  5. You'll also learn the simple strategy to make sure your site has ZERO downtime during the conversion.
  6. Once the site has been ported over to Wordpress, you'll learn how to make the switch, and test the new site to make sure everything is as it should be. You'll even be able to go to Google, search for your pages and click on the old HTML pages and be redirected to the new version of that page on the Wordpress site.

So, what are you waiting for? Let's start to convert your site.

The video kept cutting in and out, so I could not hear most of what he said and what I could hear did not make sense. Why can't you provide a written version of this course?

This is my second course with Andy and I'm more than pleased. I discovered and learned a lot. His course is easy to follow, very well explained, well demonstrated and step by step he helps us to archive some difficult tasks that I wouldn't think I could do it. It is true that Andy is available if you have any question about the course and he answers rapidly. If you struggle with something, he is there to find a solution with you. I am strongly recommend this course.

So far, it's been quite helpful but looking forward to getting into it further to understand the whole picture and process.

Excellent instruction - visual and verbal. If this will be your first WordPress site, I highly recommend doing one or more of Dr. Williams' other WP courses. I built my first WP site that way and am very happy with it. I will be now be changing an old HTML site to WP. Having already built a WP site is making this course easier for me to follow and understand.

The instruction was on point; the ONLY issue is, you don't find out until the end that the new website is installed in a subdirectory versus being installed in the original directory. For some that might not be a problem, but for me, it was. I am selling the site, and trying to explain the new owner about this type of setup, at the price they are paying wasn't going to cut it. I finally opted to go the HARD route, which was to install WordPress on a local server called, “XAMPP.” I copied and pasted the HTML pages into pages and posts, added my pictures, videos and infographics, took the old HTML site down, uploaded my new WP install into its place and the site is up and running like it should. No errors and no lost links. Hopefully you have been helped.

I didn't have a clue how to begin before completing this course. With a fairly big business site to convert, the task was well outside my experience and comfort zone. I appreciated the systematic, step by step approach and now feel ready to begin the process, especially knowing I can stay under the radar (away from the search engines) if I do make a mistake

This course was invaluable to me. I had long been nervous about trying to convert a site to WP, but with Andy's clear, step-by-step instructions and excellent tips, it turned out to be quite straightforward. Now that I've successfully converted a small site I'm ready to tackle a larger one. Thanks!

Excellent course! I am more confident now that I can convert my very old but often referenced html site to a new wp site, making sure to catch what is still relevant but also clean up some of the old content. I like the methodical approach that emphasizes completeness as well as the tips for checking for errors (broken links).

I thoroughly enjoyed the course. I have an old HTML website that is losing it's 1st page ranking because it is not mobile friendly. So I need to make it a WordPress site. As I was going through the course, I gained the knowledge and confidence to migrate to WordPress without giving it a second thought. Thank you for making the learning experience simple, understandable, and comprehensive.

Going step by step through this course, I have completed the conversion of my smallest HTML site to Wordpress. The course was extremely helpful and well put together! I am now feeling confident enough to tackle my older, larger sites. I shudder to think of the mess I would have made if I attempted it without Andrew's step by step guidance. Very pleased with this course.

On the mark. Course just made my conversion from HTML to Wordpress a lot easier. The tools Andy provide and methods were outstanding. That is why I signed up for an additional 3 courses.
