Course Title: How To Overcome Conduct Disorder: Strategies for Positive Change

Course Description:

Introduction to Conduct Disorder Conduct Disorder (CD) is a complex behavioral and mental health challenge that predominantly affects children and adolescents. It manifests through a persistent pattern of behaviors that not only violate societal norms but also infringe upon the rights of others. This course, led by the esteemed Dr. Conor Hogan Ph.D., delves into the intricacies of Conduct Disorder, offering insights and strategies to address and overcome its challenges.

Understanding Conduct Disorder: Key Features

  • *Aggression Towards People and Animals: A persistent pattern of aggressive acts can be a hallmark of CD. These behaviors include physical harm, bullying, threatening, or intimidating others, and sometimes extend to cruelty towards animals.
  • Destruction of Property: Individuals with CD may exhibit destructive behavior such as vandalism or arson, causing significant damage to property.
  • *Deceitfulness or Theft: Repeated lying, deceitfulness, or theft are common, with behaviors ranging from shoplifting to breaking and entering without confrontation.
  • Serious Violations of Rules: A pattern of violating major rules, often leading to encounters with law enforcement or authority figures, such as truancy or running away from home.
  • *Lack of Empathy: Individuals may show a disregard for the feelings and well-being of others, making it difficult to understand the impact of their actions.
  • Significant Impairment in Social or Academic Functioning: Conduct Disorder often hampers social, academic, or occupational abilities, affecting relationships and academic success.
  • *Onset and Duration: Typically beginning in childhood or adolescence, behaviors must persist for at least six months to be diagnosed as CD.

The Importance of Early Intervention Conduct Disorder can have far-reaching consequences if not addressed promptly. It's associated with a higher risk of legal troubles, academic underperformance, and social isolation in adulthood. Early intervention is vital, involving behavioral therapy, family therapy, and, where necessary, medication to manage the disorder effectively.

Course Outline:

  • *Identifying Conduct Disorder: Learn the signs and symptoms that distinguish CD from typical adolescent behaviors.
  • *Understanding Co-Occurring Conditions: Explore how other mental health conditions like ADHD, substance use disorders, or mood disorders can coexist with CD.
  • *Behavioral Interventions: Discover evidence-based strategies for managing and altering problematic behaviors.
  • *Family Dynamics and Support: Examine the role of family in addressing CD and the importance of a supportive environment.
  • *Educational Strategies: Gain insights into effective classroom management techniques to help students with CD succeed academically.
  • *Legal and Ethical Considerations: Navigate the complexities of working with the legal system and maintaining ethical practices when dealing with conduct disorders.

Gave great information about a disorder that I feel many doctors in the mental health field seem to not want to believe that a child could have. I think more people need to take this course and understand this disorder better so that children can be diagnosed younger and have a better opportunity getting help at a younger age and having a happier healthier life.
