What you will learn

Basics of Mapbox

ARCore & ARKit

Basics of Augmented Reality

Learn how object oriented programming works in practice

Students will create AR apps by writing codes in C# programming language

Why take this course?

Build your own Augmented Reality Pokemon-Go Clone!

  • Create a GPS-based Pokemon GO Clone (with Mapbox)
  • We will use the ARInterface that combines ARKit and ARCore in one Scene
  • All Apps are running on IOS & on Android
  • Learning by Doing, we will code all from scratch

Why should you learn Augmented Reality & Mapbox?

  • Mapbox handels the mapping, so you’re free to focus on designing, building, and developing your application.
  • Augmented Reality is in it's early stages
  • There is still much potential to create awesome Applications.
  • The demand for Augmented Reality apps is bigger than ever before
  • Break into a brand new industry expected to be worth $165 billion by 2024

This course is about creating a complete Pokemon GO - Clone from scratch! In order to create a Pokemon-GO Clone, we gonna have a look at numerous basics of the Gameengine Unity3D and the programming language C#.
For the GPS-based Part we will use Mapbox. Mapbox is an excellent tool in order to effectively create GPS-based Maps and accessing to datas of the real world.

Up to this point, I just got an overview of what MapBox SDK provides out of the box. That is not really helpful yet. After viewing the part of the logic for the game, my impression of the course didn't get better. It is mostly 'follow what I do, or download my code' which is not teaching you anything. There is no explanation on WHY and HOW things work, AND actually in the ARInterface video you even say: "look I have a whole other class about how to use ARKit/ARCore.....what?! That is what this one should be about. I got the other one, no problem, but I find it bad setup.

Curso muito bom, pra quem quer entender como funciona o jogo Pokemon Go e criar o seu próprio utilizando técnicas semelhantes.

Not enough coverage of Mapbox, or AR for that matter. The major content is building as Pokemon clone, very little GPS-location content.

Not a beginners course and it doesn't seem to clone a Pokermon game which works at any GPS coordinate as far as I can tell. The course is basically a copy paste excise , there is very little explanation of what is going on , its just copy this here , open this , tick this box and set that to this option.

Thank you so so so much for the course. I really love this <3 By the way please make more clearer on the configuration in Android and iOS because i got stuck for days and i have to find additional documentation(maybe because i am using the latest unity(2019)) and i got some problems in importing MapBox(the mapbox setting window not appear after importing so i cannot add the token) --------------------------------------- (Maybe this could help someone facing the same problems as mine v) | v For those who has a problem with importing MapBox (window not popup for us to enter the mapbox toKen) (i am using Unity 2019) - what i have done is right click on the "Unity" folder under the "Mapbox" folder in "Assets" -> and then choose and click reimport and wait... the window will popup - the unity told me about errors with a path ... Mapbox/Unity/... no configuration file... -> i chose the "Unity" folder(under the "Mapbox" folder) and reimport (maybe you have to look for a path that causes an error because i tried to reimport from the Mapbox folder and nothing happened) For those who cannot install support iOS Builds(iOS Support Installation Failed) from the "Build Settings..." menu - i installed the package from the "Unity Hub" by opening Unity Hub and choose the "Installs" tab, and clicking the three dots menu button from your installed version of Unity and choose "Add Component" and select whatever you want For those who faces the issues with "UnityEngine.SpatialTracking" ... - you have to go to the "Window" menu tab in Unity and then choose "Package Manager" and select the "XR Legacy Input Helpers" and then chick install I hope this will help you guys :)

the tutor accent is inaudible and subtitles are wrong plus, GameObjects are instantiated in the middle of buildings

Hard to keep up at times - definitely more of an advanced course but most all content is explained. Highly recommend to develop skills with AR and related tools!

On the positive side, I did learn about Mapbox, which is why I took this course, and also I learned that in ARInterface, I don't need to have Plane and Particle detection enabled; I had thought you needed one or the other. On a not so positive side, half of the time, the instructor changes settings in Unity without saying anything, or saying one thing and doing the opposite, and also it seems like he uploaded the video at 2x speed, so you have to pay really close attention to the screen and sometimes rewind to see what he actually did. Also noticed sometimes he was missing a semi colon or added a period where there shouldn't be, and goes back to Unity and plays without errors, which means he changed it on his end but without telling the students. So any novice to coding will have somewhat of a difficult time trying to figure out what's wrong in their code.

I like this course and also the other courses from the Instructor. He has a good knowledge about the stuff he's teaching and provides enough to get going with your own projects. Only the english language needs to be improved :-).

On the positive side, this course doesn’t include a bunch of “Intro to Unity” content like so many other courses, so you can spend more time on the main topic. Unfortunately, this is where I have the biggest problem with the course...not much time is spent on the main topics of AR and location based gaming. They are covered, but you spend far more time doing UI and gameplay work than AR. Most of the AR work is just explaining the MapBox samples and then doing a few basic things with them. If the course is expanded in these areas - like how do you get the enemy Pokémon to spawn on streets only instead of inside of building? The other negative is that this course is basically just a walk-through of how to build a specific game. Along the way you will learn some things, but there isn’t much stopping to focus on the actual learning and explanations as to WHY something is done this way. Also, there are many times that the instructor writes code or enters values into the Inspector without saying what they are. So if you are on a mobile device and can’t easily read the text, there’s no help for you. Add to that some very amateur editing where videos just cut off abruptly, even the end of the course is very abruptly ended with no wrap-up, and some between lecture content that isn’t playable on iOS devices and you end up with a course that falls short of the usual standards of Unity courses on Udemy. The content that is provided is solid and the instructor presents it fairly well overall. Even with his accent, I almost never had trouble understanding him. The programming practices used are also good, so you aren’t learning bad habits. Providing assets as well as links to other free ones also helps a lot. Expand upon the AR camera and location specific aspects and this would bring the rating up the most for me.
