What you will learn

Intelligently speak on the technical topics of blockchains.

Identify the 3 major types and components of a blockchain.

Description

Bitcoin. Ethereum. Hyperledger. With all the cryptocurrency buzzwords flying around, it is hard to get to the core of all of these technologies. The essential piece that serves as the underlying mechanism of all these technologies is blockchain. Blockchain is a decentralized, trustless, distributed ledger technology that was popuarlized by the Bitcoin global cryptocurrency platform.
This course will cover the fundamentals of blockchain technology, including the three core layers of a blockchain and the three types of blockchains.

This course is appropriate for technologists who are interested in the technology and business owners who are looking to understand the technology on a deeper level.

Quite a basic introduction , that is good for learners completely new to computer science. More visual examples/grapics and would have been good instead of all talks.

Good audio quality. I would like to have seen a bit more on the mechanics of the transaction along with a slightly more simplified version of the hashtag explanation. The instructor is very good.

the concepts of scripts and contracts are not clearly explained. What is a contract? what is a script? why do we need them?

It's a very good high-level introduction to blockchain concepts, well structured. Maybe some detail on couple fo topics, but very good for starters

Could use more detailed review on components given it's an introduction - overall it is helpful, but it feels a tad bit rushed. With that said; the instructor's approach to making the essential info available is good

The selection of which material he deemed relevant to teach. This is probably a 201 course, not a 101 course. Or it should come with a pre requisit

It felt as if he was reading it off from his charts. No further explanation offered from the instruction to try to break it down to simpler terms.

As a non technical person it is a great overview of blockchains even though I have limited background in this area

Course provides a good high level technical overview of blockchain technology. Additional potential applications for the technology would be beneficial (ie. how would a bank leverage blockchain technology, what could a central bank do with the technology, etc..)

It shows a more technical view of Blockchain and I was expecting it to be more practical in terms of applicability of the technology

Terminology not well defined to student, acronyms used referring to organisations that are maybe known in the country of course author. Does not flow overly well with side comments that may be important but it is not clear, etc, etc.

Very vague explanations. The presenter has no clear idea of his audience, shifting from extremely basic explanations to highly technical language. I learned very little from this course, as the explanations were either too simple and broad, or too steeped in technical language. Also, there is only one (!) recommendation for further learning.

In this course Hudson provides a concise, clear overview of the foundational concepts of blockchains. I found it a very helpful orientation to this area. I would encourage him to expand the course.

Very informative course and I will surely keep an eye on Hudson's future courses. Exactly what I need to get a better understanding about Blockchain technology.

Nice introduction! One thing that I found bit unsatisfactory is the way the Merkle Tree is discussed -- hoping for more details in the upcoming lecture. You say that it makes it easy to prove that an element is in a database without having all the data, but then you say you just need to hash the bits of data together, all the way up the tree to the root hash. To to do that you need to have the data! So what's at issue? Is the scenario instead that you actually have the data, but want to make sure it's in the database? I.e. you have all the data but using the root hash you can check that indeed it's in there, without having to make expensive database calls? In that case, what's the benefit of a tree-like structure over just a hash of the concatenation of all hashes of the elements, or something like that?
