Looking for a course that was reasonable but this exceeds any of my expectations. Would definitely recommend to a friend!! I had played the violin for about a year before we found this course and I had already learned the basics including: posture, wrist, basic fingering, ect. I found it very helpful to just skip the things I had already learned, I also found that their was a few things in the first sections that still improved my violin/fiddle playing I would recommend still surfing through the first couple sections even if you know a good amount Chuck is very knowledgeable and makes things clear for you!!

So far so good. I am a complete beginner and I really appreciate the thorough explanations about everything. I haven't started to annoy my neighbors yet, but I'm sure as soon as we get into playing that might change!

This course is really in depth. He takes the time to explain in detail so you don't get stuck on all those little details. I'm very much looking forward to the rest of the course.

I just finished the whole course and I'm very satisfied from what I was expecting. To contextualize a bit, I followed this course after taking the Beginner Violin Course (also taught by Chuck). I have ben playing the violin for roughly 20 months with some classical training with a teacher in person. I'm mostly playing folk music (american & european). I was happily surprised with the content of the course. It won't teach you how to play tunes (like the vast majority of resources you can find elsewhere), but will focus on basic elements to start building your musical language without too much theory. For me, going through pentatonic scales (minor and major) helped me improving some aspects as learning by ear, creating licks, improvising and most importantly backing-up. However, I think the course would benefit to clarify a bit more the relationship between pentatonic scales and a simple chord progression (ex from the backing tracks : I - IV - I - V - I) or even teaching some basic chords to highlight the chords changes. Chuck demonstrates it during the different examples by playing the root note every time there's a change on the backing tracks (a G for a G chord, a D for a D chord, etc...). I think adding a short explanatory video on this matter would make the use of a pentatonic scale a bit more easy to grasp during playing.

I really love the content and understand everything he is teaching. The problem is my sound is horrendous, and it's hard not having a person in the room to help see where I am failing. I don't feel I can progress to the next lesson without mastering the double stop and I am not making any gains practicing over and over. There's something I must be missing but can't figure it out alone. :(

I’m just at the beginning, and it’s good to see that the teacher really hits all the basics before overloading you with too much info, that can be overwhelming, and cause you to loose interest. Good start for the real beginner

I have already picked up a couple of useful tips that have not been covered by in person classes I have taken.

I've been playing for about a year, I picked Violin back up at the beginning of Covid, and the biggest challenge I've had has been finger positioning. I've not been able to make any true progress because I could not get my finger positions right until these lessons. Chuck has kept things simple, I was so focused on mimicking what others where doing I never gave a thought about how I should do it. I have average size hands, but was always trying to keep my fingers especially 2 and 3 separated, which could be uncomfortable, and produce some bad tones. I've spent a lot of time watching and studying people on line and most of them have had long slender fingers. It makes since their fingers would not be close together, I never looked at it that way. After watching Chuck explain that some people might have fingers far apart, other, close together and some who might have them overlap was a like getting hit with bat. It was simple and yet I never thought of it. I've made it thru about 30 lessons and have enjoyed what I've learned so far. Wile I still have a lot of lessons left to go, I have not been disappointed and would recommend these lessons to anyone wanting to learn to play Violin.

Great course for beginners, the video picture quality is a little less than what is expected now-a-days, but you can clearly see everything that is discussed and the content trumps any aesthetic shortcomings. Thank you for making such an immersive course available for beginners who many not have the time or money to take 1-on-1 lessons.
