Description

AutoHotkey is an amazing, FREE, open-source tool that can save you an amazing amount of time.   We designed this course to help people new to AutoHotkey get started with this amazingly powerful language.

Compared to most languages, AutoHotkey is very user friendly to non-programmers.  Having said that, there are some nuances that will trip-up both seasoned developers and people that are new to programming.  We tried to include all the things we wish someone had pointed out to us in this course!  Unlike other courses, this AutoHotkey course is free and will remain that way!

The course is designed to answer a ton of questions that you will have when you're first starting with AutoHotkey!

The course helps you understand things you should know BEFORE you dive into AutoHotkey:

  1. Before coding- things you'd want to know before you've begun coding

  2. While you're coding- These are tips and tricks of things you'd want to know while you're coding

  3. Troubleshooting- Uh-oh.  Here we give you a few ideas on what to do when things are going wrong

The course is also created in  a way that you can jump around in any order.   So, if you see a specific lecture you're interested in, you can jump straight to it and be able to follow along

We have a several free AutoHotkey tools we've designed to help people.

  1. AHKEditSwap- which allows you to easily change your default editor of AutoHotkey scripts

  2. AHKAddToStartup - Makes it easy to add your AutoHotkey script (or any program) to the Windows startup process

  3. AHKScriptScan- Have a way to peak inside AutoHotkey files and highlight possible hacks that you might have missed

  4. AHKHelp- Have access to AutoHotkey help in any program.  It also searches YouTube for videos on your topic!

  5. AHKHotkeyStringLookup- Easily search all your running scripts for Hotkeys & HotStrings.  This tool is a must for people new to AutoHotkey!

  6. AHKScriptHub- Easily access, reload, edit, pause, suspend, or jump to folders of any running AutoHotkey script

  7. AutomateMyTask - Easily find and click images (or controls).  AmT helps you write your AutoHotkey syntax for you!

AutoHotkey is a very easy to learn scripting language.  It's saved us more time than we can imagine and hope you adapt it to save yourself time so you can start working smarter, not harder.

Very knowable individuals on AHK and I think for a beginner it was still complex with a lot assumptions made on user base knowledge. This is more of a programmers course made for programmers. Resource links do not always link to AHK Scripts i.e. the AHKHelp links to website with embedded YT and no download. To change default editor is almost 1,000 lines of code and connects to the internet to download latest version. Maybe missed the point on the Security standpoint, but ping out to the network and downloading stuff might suit the dev, but I see this as a security concern. At least you can see the code. The code seems overly complex to change the editor. I guess AHK doesn't mean easy and simple, but complex scripting code to do repetitive tasks... From a video production stand point audio was all over the map from clip to clip high then low then high. I do appreciate the free content on your YT, but need to step up the video production with a greenscreen and fix the audio. Feels like a left and shift from YouTube to here.

The course is everything you need to know before you jump into AHK. The mentors are amazing and introduces to a community and various other channels to get help in AHK: youtube, StackOverflow, Facebook groups etc. All I would say is if you want to dive deep into AHK, please begin here.

While the course provides numerous free AutoHotkey tools and lots of links to resources of information about using AutoHotkey, I was somewhat disappointed in the content and I think that it misses the mark in a number of ways. Hopefully this feedback provides the incentive, as well as the opportunity, to improve the content. COURSE DESCRIPTION Contrary to the course description, the emphasis is not at all on how "to help people ... get started with this amazingly powerful language". It is much more about the resources and tools to have on hand before you get started with programming in AutoHotkey. SECTION 1 In Section 1 you specifically state that you put this course together to "show how easy it is to use AutoHotkey". The content is much more about singing the praises of AutoHotkey (as well as significant focus on your mutual admiration for each other's experience and number of videos that you have both posted), and also providing some great resources and tools to assist in using AutoHotkey. In Section 1 you also specifically suggest that we (students) should "feel free to ask questions" and that you are "happy to help where you can". However, unlike other udemy courses, the Q&A feature is disabled. So asking questions is not possible. Some of this feedback may have been better provided and addressed under Q&A rather than within this review. SECTION 3 Section 3 includes a link within the video (to the 17 Ways to Automate Windows Programs). It would be more useful to have this link in the Resources for that section. Better to keep it simple for participants to access. While I appreciate that the course content is specifically an introduction level, I would have found the whole course more useful if it included some example demonstrations of at least most of the numbered items in Section 3, rather than emphasising that "it is an amazing tool ... that we have been using for a long time". Showing, rather than Telling is always going to provide a much greater impact for any student. SECTION 17 Section 17 reviews AHK Script Hub script that is used to control all running scripts. Unfortunately, the Resource points to https://www.the-automator.com/ After searching the site, I found that the correct link is https://www.the-automator.com/easily-edit-pause-reload-open-folder-for-any-running-ahk-script-works-w-o-system-tray-icon-with-ahkscripthub/ The biggest issue that I see is that the course content and description are not quite aligned. If this is addressed, along with the other points I've noted above, it would provide a more satisfying experience for future participants.

Just came across AHK a few days ago. This is a nice high level overview of what possibilities it offers. I also enjoyed the additional tools you showed or even created by your own. Great work, will definetly have a look in your other courses and videos!

The course content was somewhat informative, but Resource links should be direct to the referenced content. Many of these links are to a page that you have to manually search for the content. Sometime this results in an additional link to another page where you have to find the reference material. Although this is a free course, it could be better organized. If I had to jump through the same hoops for a paid course, the rating would have been even lower.

Perfect match, being severly deaf i struggled a bit even withsub-titles, Joe speaks very fast, for me anyway, not busting, yelling, whinging. Great course, Joe you nailed it packing the essentials into short digestible videos. Thank you for the course.

If you use a computer very much, there are repetitive things we all do and AutoHotkey is a great way to automate them. This course helps you with the hardest part; getting started. This course is very good to get you going with AutoHotkey and you will save a lot of time day after day.
