Why take this course?

Quality has often been described as “fitness for use” and “conformance to customer requirements.” And traditionally, this conformance has been verified through rigorous part inspection and testing. But the practice of quality professionals in assuring this "fitness for use" has evolved extensively since the middle of the 20th century through the increasing demands of high-risk industries like aerospace and automotive, and through the benefits of technological advancements like the microprocessor and connected technologies.

Today, Quality Engineers fulfill key technical leadership roles in most manufacturing organizations. An effective Quality Engineer possesses a wide range of skills from part and process measurement methods, to data analysis and visualization, to risk analysis and quality planning. And because of this broad skill base and interaction with diverse areas of a company, Quality Engineers are often well-positioned to fulfill higher level management roles.

In this course, "An Introduction to Quality Engineering", you will gain a thorough and practical overview of the quality profession without getting bogged down in technical jargon. You will not only learn about the 12 KEY AREAS of quality engineering, but also gain practical concepts in each. In this course, you will learn key skills and strategies in:

  • Part Measurement

  • Process Measurement

  • Calibration

  • Assessing Measurement Error

  • Data Analysis and Visualization

  • Risk Analysis

  • Quality Planning

  • Quality Systems Development

  • Quality Auditing

  • Root Cause Analysis and Process Improvement

  • Training

  • Leadership

This class is designed for the quality, manufacturing or technically-adept professional looking to expand their skill set into this important field of study. "An Introduction to Quality Engineering" will give you a foundational understanding of these key area and prepare you for more advanced training.

This is the third course I am taking from Ray Harkins and I have learned a lot. I have done previously, Root Cause Investigation and PPAP. I am so grateful that I found such professional online training. I really recommend Ray Harkins' courses.

I decided to take this class to brush off some old skills, and get a refresher. This class covers each topic at a very high level so the student understands the concepts, and can apply the concept to their individual situation. Ray explains everything very well; clear, concise, and direct language. I wouldn't hesitate to reccomend the class to any interested in this topic.

A good comprehensive introduction about quality, gives reasonable basis to the non- quality specialists/ beginners about quality.

This course was well done and stayed true to the title, "An Introduction...". It allowed my brain to connect the dots, as it were, to the statistical methods I had heard of or maybe even used from time to time, but didn't really have a context for the theory behind the methods.

it is a good match since i have being in quality for over 18 years, sometimes we need to go back to the basics for challenging situations. sometimes things are simpler that what they look but we forget about basics

The first several sections were really focused on pure manufacturing but the last 5 or 6 sections were more applicable to software quality engineering and that is my focus

Ray has taken a very smart approach to teaching the high-level overview of Quality Engineering. His approach introduces the areas required for the Quality engineer to be effective, but then he shows you where to expand in each of these directions through self-study, etc. In the conclusion lecture, he uses the term 'pathways', which is an excellent summary of the course. Each group of lectures are pathways as introductions to where the student (self-learner) is expected to grow deeper through application at their existing company. If in consideration of moving into the role of Quality Engineering (as opposed to basic level QC or QA), I would recommend starting here.

I work as part of quality but in a different area. This course gives me an overview of what my colleagues in the "real quality" are doing, understand their languages more. As for myself, I understood a bit more deeply of what quality is.

This course is a great review of the skills I learned in my Green and Black belt Lean Six Sigma courses. As a technician, I have some experience in quality assurance duties. One thing that could be added in the future is in video 32 listing the management factor for 7 M's of six sigma. I believe this is important since management sets the tone for a company's success. Management needs to provide the tools and resources to help employees run the business successfully. Overall this course is a wonderful complement to Lean Six Sigma Green and Black belt studies.

Great course: I wonder if the instructor has a full compilation of classes so to have like a whole package of Quality Engineering Training; I'd definitely pay for it.
