Description

You want to start using After Effects, right?

If you've never opened (or opened and immediately closed) After Effects, you're in the right place.

This is the first part in my 3-part Dive Into After Effects series. I created this series to make learning how to use After Effects as easy as possible.

You learn by doing.

In the Dive Into After Effects series, you'll follow along and work on your own project while learning.

What makes me qualified to teach you?

My name is Phil. I am a professional motion graphics artist and video creator. Plus, I'm the creator of some of the world's most popular After Effects courses - with over 150,000 students and thousands of 5-star reviews like these ones from this course:

I am new to after Effects and this course is so easy to follow. Good Job! - Sequin Frederick

Excellent course for a beginner like me! A step by step guide. - Fairuz Nabilah

I enjoyed this course and found it very helpful to explain the basics. Phil went through things clearly and through the videos I was able to catch some of the skills that i have been struggling with. I would recommend this for anyone starting After Effects - June Beveridge

My Promise to You

I'll be here for you every step of the way. If you have any questions about the course content or anything related to this topic, you can always post a question in the course or send me a direct message.

I want to make this the best course on learning After Effects for beginners. So if there is any way I can improve this course, just tell me and I'll make it happen.

What's this course all about?

After Effects is an amazing program that can help you create motion graphics, visual effects, and titles that make your videos better, but it can be intimidating to try out. In this 45-minute course, you'll learn the basics of using After Effects: understand the program layout, learn how to use the tools, get comfortable with using the timeline. We'll cover everything from opening up After Effects for the first time, importing assets, and creating your very first composition.

This class is perfect for video creators, designers, and everyone who wants to learn After Effects in an un-intimidating way. No prior knowledge or experience is required! By the end of the class, you'll have the basic knowledge to start creating projects and dive even further into the world of After Effects.

Course Assignment

Create a title card within After Effects. This assignment will teach you how to create a new composition, use the basic After Effects tools, arrange layers in your sequence, and use layer properties to change the scale, position, transparency, and rotation of your objects.

With our 30-day 100% money back guarantee, there is nothing holding you back from jumping in right now and trying the course out.

Go ahead and click the enroll button, and I'll see you in lesson 1!

Cheers,

Phil

I got this course as a freebie in 2017. It's just one hour long and only teaches you very basic concepts in After Effects without delving into keyframing or any sort of animation whatsoever. It uses After Effects CS6 and although it has been "updated", it's just one lesson about leaving reviews and using the Udemy video player. It's ironic that another variant of that lesson (addressing Udemy's way of prompting students to leave reviews early) is also included but that one was added several years prior to the new one. I find this practice of breaking up courses into 1-hour lessons very unnecessary and an exploitable way of having to buy multiple courses just to get the whole package. One lesson is actually a YouTube video that was added to the course. Therefore, students should just focus on taking masterclass courses or at least those that have at least 5 hours worth of content. In conclusion, this is an outdated course and shouldn't be available to new students.

It's so usefull. It's going slow and very deeply but dont worry it is not boring at all. I was not be able to open the AdobeFX cause I thought it was a hard thing but with this course it is becoming enjoyable and fun.

I really liked the style of the course with short good understandable professional made lessons but I think there should be more content and I didn't get how the export video fits into the other content.

Great intro. Although I knew a lot of this as I'm an avid user of Photoshop and Illustrator, it was good review. Definitely great for someone who is not a regular Adobe products user and needs the down and dirty quick overview.

EDIT 8-Jul-16: [wow, sorry, udemy reviews don't support line breaks]I felt bad leaving a below-avg review based on speculation about the course's $/video hour rate, so I crunched the #s on After FX courses on Udemy. I've also been looking for a reason to try a new data scraping tool (ie, i'm not normally this obsessive). ***** I scraped all of the courses on Udemy that mention 'After Effects' in the title, then removed all courses w/ fewer than 15 reviews from the dataset, leaving 10 instructors w/ 37 courses. ***** As of today: *****$/video hour of video for Dive into After FX 1 and 2: $20***** average/median $/video hour rate of other highly-reviewed after FX courses: $6.67 / $5.71***** average/median $/hour rate of other highly-reviewed after FX courses NOT COUNTING free courses: $8.22 / $5.71***** So it's clear that these 'Dive Into' courses are by far the most expensive After FX courses on a $/video hour basis.***** However, when looking @ $/video hour rates for each instructor in this set, Phil Ebiner (the Dive Into instructor) is #5/10, meaning that on average, his prices are in-line with others. This is largely due to 2 things: his having the largest # of free courses w/ high review counts (tied w/ 3 total free courses) available w/in the topic area, and his having 13 total courses, or 1/3rd of the data points, which raises the average/median of the group considerably (sort of artificially obscuring his above-market rates). ***** FWIW, Phil seems like a great instructor, and I appreciate the # of free courses he offers. But when considering THIS course, my initial review still stands: it's not enough bang-for-the-buck. **********Original Review************ I'm really disappointed at the length of this course. I've only taken programming courses on udemy, so maybe my expectations are distorted, but it felt like After Effects hadn't even warmed up before this was over.

There are too many things that he didn't explain and although it's a basic course, it's just too basic to pay that amount for the course, moreover, the exporting video seemed to be a video he made for his YouTube channel that is obviously for free (and that video was harder to understand). He did explain thing clearly and not too fast which was good. Overall, I don't feel that more knowledgeable.

The user interface for Adobe After Effects can be intimidating to a beginner, and in this course, Phil did a great job orienting me to the sections and basic navigation capabilities within the AE project workspace.

A very simple course that shows the basics of the powerful tools in After Effects. Simple, yet engaging, it provides a solid background for future courses. Good job!

Basic control elements of after effects are covered. Creating animation is not covered. Course for beginners in after effects, those who only make their first steps in video editing. Explanation is simple, though a litle more attention can be added to showing every element of program's interface. Overall usefulness - very good.

I'm a good bit more advanced in After Effects but wanted to watch the intro just in case there was something I missed in the basics, or that was updated with After Effects CC. He's very good and precise and I'm sure his more advanced classes are just as good. I'm experienced in media/video production and we use After Effects, so the first thing I notice is the quality, and the quality was there, as well, too.
