The part about Assets was good but for a beginner to Unity I am still not sure if I am to download ALL of the Assets and use them for various products or do I download Assets, from Unity, for every project that I start. Very good quick information though!

This course is for a very old version of Unity and it is not possible to even load the demo games being used in the lessons when using a current Unity version.

would have probably been more like a 4 if it wasn't outdated but as is too much of the interface and scripting has changed since unity 3.5, not worth it

Completed the course and loved it. Explanations are clear and I feel I understand the "why" as well as the "how". Lectures are bite-sized and it should be easy to go back and review when I need to. Now to try to put some of it into practice...

Pros and cons overall: Pros: - Easy to understand English accent from the lecturer - Concise and short videos make it easier to do in chunks so you don't fall asleep to a 15+ minute long video - Concepts nicely explained - Each concept has its own video, so the course is broken into different modules. Good system Could be better: - during the open project phase...it's similar but does not account for Unity 5. Course definitely needs an update to account for this as you have to "Import Project" in Unity 5 - During the AngryBot open part in Module 1 lecture 3...the game audio was playing in the BG. Was kinda offputting as I was trying to listen to the lecturer - This lecturer wasn't too bad I liked him personally but if you're after the equivalent of a LinusTech presenter/fun YouTube personality you will be sorely disappointed. Still, a few moments made me laugh out loud so definitely could be worse Honestly, it's a good course that explains the fundamentals of Unity while making you want to know more. If you're after a fully comprehensive "hold your hand" type course you'll be sorely disappointed, this course is more of a guideline to the basics of Unity instead of how to make your first RPG/shooter/platformer game for example. Thank you for the lectures Alan Thorne, you taught me well enough. Best wishes in your future endeavours. :)

This was great information, but just a walk through. There wasn't any challenges for new beginners to write code or look for answers, everything is just given to you.

the instructor appears to be very knowledgeable of the subject matter but the current unity 3d version available is 5.4.1 which means that the instructor should revise and put up to date the course so that it will be more up to date and allow new students to get the knowledge while following the instructor. I had to import and update the angrybots project to be able to follow the class, I'm a little familiar with animation software, but I am sure not everyone is. Everything else good from this side.

Great course, but with some problems. The pace is a bit slow at times. A bit verbose. However, this ensures that you will not feel lost, not even once. Very easy to follow. But it is problematic that the resources don't work with the current Unity version (or is it because I don't have Maya installed..?) Anyway, one of the meshes don't work at all. If you just want to watch, this is not a problem.

I've had issue with the angry bots file, it's not compatible with the current version of Unity. Also, although I think the courses are very attentive to detail, a few parts of the interface have since been changed in the newer versions of Unity, rendering some of these lessons obsolete. I would suggest that an update of some sort would be made.

This course is excellent for someone who knows absolutely nothing about game development or Unity. I highly recommend it to anyone wanting to get into game design or development. The instructor is clear and precise and explains things in a very easy to understand way. Bravo!

The fact the instructor authored several books on Unity reflects greatly on the quality of the content and presentation of this course. This is a beginner introduction to Unity which is built through five chapters reviewing the main features of unity using short videos. This is a great plus in case you need to review a particular topics. Additionally the instructor is taking great care to repeat keyboard shortcut and features location every time a feature is used. This is great to follow the course as well to get familiar with Unity interface. I enjoy the course although it might be a little bit outdated (it is based on Unity 3 - I think - and the current version is 5) which prevents for example to have the same demo packages than used in this course. The last chapter is focusing on some pro features which might be unfortunate since beginners are unlikely to purchase the pro version... The scripting part (resting on JavaScript) could also be improved and broadened. It does a good job as an introduction but, to my taster, requires more details and information for scripting a "complex" game.

The Program does not include the assets necessary to follow along in the course lectures. The Course Material that is provided is in a non-compatible format to the Unity program, and explicitly requires the student to troubleshoot on their own. The Maya files that are provided require the student to download and install Maya, in addition to Unity; and, this requirement is never made clear to the student before purchasing the course work. So, the student is left to troubleshoot the carelessness of the presenters on their own, and I, for one, am not particularly happy about this.

Working with assets but they do not provide donwload links, don't even reply to those asking for a link. No respect to the viewer of the lectures at all.

I like this into to Unity because not only it clearly tells what are the basic features of Unity, but here and there, sprinkled all over the place, there are precious suggestions of best practices and - equally important - what worse practices to avoid.

Very fast you learn to create environment but most basic to use and understood all the Unity SDK tools. Extremely clear english accent. It’s funny if you build your own game simultaneous and spend time to play after 3-5 lectures. Well done.
