Why take this course?

This course explores the amazingly powerful 3D Coat. If you've wanted to explore 3D but been confused by which program to learn I highly recommend 3D Coat. It is so easy, yet so incredibly powerful that you can start having fun without immediately worrying about technicalities.

Some positive feedback from current students:

"This is an excellent course and I really enjoy your teaching style. I've been over section 2 at least 10 times now and there's so much gold in there. As a musician there's noway I could listen to a topic over and over if the instructor was monotonous, condescending or other, but you speak easily and naturally with highly relevant content and an excellent commend of the subject. By working in an almost free form fashion and uncovering limitations and mistakes in both program and design makes the course much more useful and educational."

--------------------------

"Wow, first of all, I MUST say: I'm 14 lectures in and after the 1st or 2nd ... this series is truly awesome. Feel free to quote me on that. I've even told all my design friends about it."

--------------------------

"Nobody has put anything together that's quite like this. Some of Javis Jones' tuts are great, but you also add a tremendously strong elements of ideation and practical, captivating design-dev skills along with how the tools work ... kudos, my friend. Also wanted to say: good vocal/video pacing as well, very engaging, never-ever boring!"

--------------------------

"Such a creative way to use the tools. I am learning new methods for designing complex shapes and I am only about 4 lessons in. I really have to thank you and I am so glad I purchased this course. I've been in a bit of a rut with 3D - Coat, wanting to use it but putting it off and sticking with what I am comfortable with (polygon modelling in MODO) but you have really opened my eyes with your course. Thank you so much"

--------------------------

We begin the course looking at a variety of ways to create 3D forms. There are lots of tools to use, but we focus on a select few and discover how easy it can be to go from zero to hero - literally!

But I don't want to be guilty of just giving you some marketing blurb. Let's keep it real. Some of these tools can be self explanatory and may not merit a whole video related to it. However, what this video series provides is a real world peak into some of the deeper issues you may encounter. I include a video where I have a memory overload and then i explain why it happened because its a typical error you will run into as you start adding lots of geometry. I look into global space issues which occur and break symmetry from time to time as you use certain tools and look at ways of creating smoothness without losing the form which seems to be typical in a voxel based environment - and lots of other little details which can ruin your day if you are not aware of them.

After I explain our little group of tools, I've tried to make the series project based. I explain my process and at one point get inspired by a small detail which totally changed the direction of the model to great success I think.

This speaks very highly of 3D Coat . It is very flexible to the creative process and extremely forgiving, allowing you complete fluidity as you work. Z Brush gets all the press, but I am telling you as someone who has been committed to 3d for 20 years, 3D Coat is a special program and the quality of your work will improve massively.

But not only that the level of your frustration will correspondingly decline.

Even if you do not learn the program from me, put the effort in and learn this amazing product for your own sake.

I am a professional who has worked in countless commercials and have taught 3D and visual effects for 10 years using Maya and Z Brush, both excellent products.

3D Coat is my secret weapon of choice. You will not regret the time you invest in these videos where I explore many interesting workflows to achieve form and structure which are simple unrivaled in any other program.

It was a very informative tutorial but my only issue was the design on fly while demoing tools for the video. I like your other tutorial more, "3D Coat Sculpture modeling UVs and Paint," because the design was already inked down. Going back and forth and having you edit off cam was annoying. Other than that, I learned a lot from this module. Please make more tutorials for 3D Coat. Thank you

I appreciate how Scott's tutes are the gateway to great power without the usual headaches. If I were to make any suggestion it would be to be more obsessive about naming menus, commands, options, and keystrokes, even when they've already been mentioned a few times. The education here is a spectacular bang for the buck. Thanks!

Yes, very informative videos except for on thing: The transition from video 19 to video 20 is very disappointing! I expected a smooth transition but the jump from video 19 to video 20 was just too big. In fact, I thought there was a video missing. I missed out on a lot of design detail, not happy, sorry!

The material presented by Scott is excellent. The way he works is very informative, and the concepts will remain applicable to any future version of 3D Coat.

Despite seeing it`s obvious potential, I had only really used 3d Coat for it`s nifty retopology tools. With Zbrush becoming more and more top heavy, with each new release, I figured it was time to get back to the relative `simplicity` of 3d Coat. Found these tutorials purely by accident online and I must say I`ve learned more in the past couple of days with these than I have in the years it`s been languishing on my computer! Terrific bunch of tutorials that really give me a great jump start with hard surface modelling and the various really cool tools. Nicely paced and I also like the fact that even with the odd error now and then it also helps us to fix them when they happen.....which they will of course! Great course, Scott...I`ll definitely be checking out more of them.

A majority of the time, the instructor is providing spot on knowledge in such an order that resembles the real life times that I experience an issue (or would have a great opportunity to use the bit of knowledge). There are some times that the instructor seems like he's about to get off on a valuable tangent nugget of knowledge, and then truncates himself before going on. While mildly jimmy-rustling in nature, it's keeping me interested in what he has to offer and where his mind settles as he moves from point to point. As someone who has to teach advanced cloud-based networking topics regularly, I've learned a thing or two about learning and teaching (and what does or doesn't work well). I can tell you that the value of this class comes from the instructor's ability to naturally stimulate one's curiosity while also providing both the context and the knowledge necessary to form confidence in the student's ability. What follows is only natural growth, and it feels great.

Clear interesting process. Not bogged down on the basic usage of the software but geared to usage of the software. Nice comparison on advantages to using 3D coat.

There are many ressources arround to learn 3dc only with their own videos. Yes, however... I learnt more in a few hours with your tutorial than in months learning things here and there with other ressources. And it helped me to put together and use things that I had already learnt Obviously, you don't only know 3dc very well but you are also a very good teatcher. I don't get mad afer 5 mn listening to you !! :) Everything is clear , precise and useful. Thank you for your work.

This guy is SO helpful. His slow-moving talking pace is actually the biggest benefit about this. I've searched through hundreds of tutorials on 3D coat and not only do they speak so fast you have to pause and rewind a bunch of times, but they don't EVER explain 'why' they're actually doing something. They just do it as if you don't need to understand the purpose of it and can build based on memory alone. This guy explains everything explicitly and at the right pace for a learner.

Such a good way to teach hardsurface modeling with voxels based entities. Definitively, i will follow the next courses on retopology (manual and automatic) , Uvs & Painting. If it's such clever than this one, it will be great. Well done !

The course was really great. I think the principles can be applied to a large range of subject matter. The quality of the videos was great, but on two of the videos, the audio had a lot of static noise, so much that I couldn't hear what the instructor was saying. Also, some of the videos are out of order. Other than those small logistics things, the course is amazing.

As a zbrush user I never understood the power of 3D coat, this tutorial really opened my eyes to the great advantages of 3D coat. Hard surface modeling seems so easy now, I want to do cars, spaceships, robots, shoes ... :-) It's easy to follow, not boring, the teacher goes straight into action and you get to learn the tools slowly but surely. I hope we get some more quality tutorials on 3D Coat.

Covers a broad range of tools and has a lot of helpful tips on getting usable results. Helps take a user from basic understanding to "Ahh, ha. I see how he did that!".
